I will not purchase a bag unless it meets two requirements: functionality and style. I like a bag that functions, but also feels comfortable on the shoulder knowing I will be toting my laptop, planner, wallet and other items for work during the week. It is always good to have separate night-time bag that can carry only a few items.

I also prefer bags I can carry in-hand or on my forearm. (Though yesterday the weight of my laptop kind of cut off circulation to my hand. Oh well.)

And with the long weekend ahead, today I'm carrying two gargantuan bags - one for work and one with my overnight stuff. It's actually more comfortable being balanced out. Who knew.

I have the same problem, and down the line I found out it is not just a 'cosmetic' issue. Add this to computer sitting and some real pain results. So now I: buy bags I can wear messenger style, or bags with handles so I carry them in my hand or occasionally over the crook of my arm, so I can change hands (preferably a bag that can do both, depending on the load factor), and I've even resulted in getting laptop bags with wheels (like GoGo bags). I also avoid 'heavy' silly metal hardware like extra padlocks, chains, etc. Some great new bags are also of lighter, more supple leather, like the Gryson bag I bought recently. What a relief!
