Freebie Friday: Win One Of 3 Copies Of Shoptimism, The New Book About Shopping In America

What: Shoptimism, Lee Eisenberg’s investigation into why and how Americans shop.

shoptimism

Why: A genuinely informative read, this book is packed with insights and research into why we shop the way we do: why “women shop and men buy,” why we’re so into our credit cards, and why, basically, we love to shop.

I’m an explosive shopper. I will be very careful and resist spending for a long period of time, and then once I buy one item, I explode and begin purchasing as much as possible!

  • Clara

I’m a value shopper. I rarely buy anything that’s not on sale, but I don’t mind spending reasonable amounts of money on clothes and accessories that I consider investment pieces and that I know I’ll have for a long time. Trend pieces, ‘though, I tend to buy inexpensively.

P.S. already a subscriber to the SheFinds newsletter.

I am a deal shopper. While I only buy things that I feel are of quality, I buy them at a cheap price and I am always on the lookout for codes, coupons and gift with purchases.

I’m the got-to-take-care-of-myself shopper. I’ve cut back on clothing and accessories but can’t give up my bi-monthly massages and the occasional mani/pedi. During these stressful times, I need my massages more than ever! I consider that and salon mani/pedi’s once in awhile a necessity, not a luxury.

I think about what I really need before I buy. I used to be an impulse buyer, now I often go home and think about a purchase before buying a large purchase, sometimes I even think about smaller purchases twice. I don’t need to dress up for work any more so am not the clothes horse I used to be!

I receive your newsletter, and I am defintiely a cheapskate/skinflint/frugal/parsimonious pennypincher. It is insanely hard to get me to part with a buck.

  • Diane Baum

Sadly, I tend to be a real impulse buyer….

I used to go nuts with coupons and buy deals like crazy but donated alot, now I just buy what we need with coupons and have a month or two of groceries always on hand- used to have enough for a year and rotate, and donate alot.

  • Phyllis

I’m definitely an impulse buyer. When I see something I love I just have to go for it. And if it’s on sale i might get two!

  • Rosanne

I subscribe to the newsletter and I’m a thrifty shopper. Coupons, sales real deals. I stretch a dollar til it hollers

  • john r

I have gotten to the point that I only buy when things are on sale.

  • Lena

My shopping habits have improved since I turned 30. I try to buy classic, quality items usually on sale, at reasonably priced retailers. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t go over my budget at times when I see something cute or something at a too-cheap-not-to-buy price! I may be 30+ but I’m still a girl at heart that is lured in by pretty things! LOL!

  • Pilotshoprincess

(subscriber) I have got to have a deal… and I have got to have the cash. So, since I am a retailer/buyer I know the margins on things and it is harder than ever to convince me it is really a sale. I know the mark up then take off trick. Before I would see it and honestly believe that was a great deal. Little more attentive now!

  • Lena

I’m generally a plan-ahead shopper with a shopping list and a budget – although, there are moments when I have a spazz if I see a cute item at a too-low-not-to-get price! After years of having the wardrobe of a mad person where nothing looked good together, I’ve learned to read magazines and blogs to learn about each season’s trends and new stores/designers. Then I decide which pieces I’d like to add to my wardrobe. Next, I’ll do a bit of online research to figure out where I can buy these items at the best prices and when they will be on sale or the store will offer a coupon. Any cash saved is used to go out for drinks with friends so I can show of my new finds :)
