From The Safari To The Subway: Africa Fashion Week 2010′s Daring Trends

We love that international fashion weeks remind us how diverse the industry is, because we often forget. This year’s African Fashion Week has given young designers like Uganda’s Solome Katongole (remember that name – you may need to know it later) the chance to show the world’s stage what they’ve got. This year’s shows revealed trends from Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon; there were plenty of peplun tops, thigh high slits, printed pants, yellow, statement necklaces and plunging necklines to go around.

And with plenty of silk dresses, bold colors and prints, and Michelle Obama’s favorite, cinch-waist blazers, there’s reason to believe U.S. fashion has something to take away from AFW. Can’t you see the sparkly plunge neckline dress by African designer Koketso Chiepe on a Hollywood red carpet soon?
