How To Wear A Chambray Shirt And Still Look Polished
April 6, 2010
A chambray top is very casual–it’s a workman’s staple–but that doesn’t mean you can’t dress it up. I’ve been a fan of this trend for some time now, see how two celebs wore the shirt, and because I want to wear it every day, I have developed a no-fail outfit that makes the top look polished enough to go from work to a night out.
The key to making chambray look pulled together is juxtaposing the top with formal pieces. Go with a slimmer fitting chambray top and pair it with something glitzy like a gold brocade skirt. For accessories, go with evening basics like strappy sandals with a heel, statement-making earrings, and a small clutch. Here are the pieces needed to get the look right:
The lighter wash on this Gap Chambray Western Shirt ($59.50) makes it look more worn in, but the slimmer fit makes it look more put together than a basic chambray top.
This J. Crew Metallic moss jacquard skirt ($178) has the right amount of shine to make it appropriate for work and a night out.
You should temper the gold skirt with a neutral heel like this Seychelles Women’s Red Eye Platform Sandal ($54.97).
I love the leather and suede weaving on this TopShop Suede and Leather Clutch ($70) that adds some edge to the outfit.
These Banana Republic Aurora Medallion Earring ($35) add the perfect hint of glamour to the chambray top.
