Nicole Richie And Marchesa Lose Major Style Points With This Mess Of A Prom Dress
Nicole Richie looked the victim of a tragic bow-attack accident this week on the red carpet for the L.A. Museum exhibit “The Unmasking.” I wish I was wearing a mask when I saw her in this horrendous outfit – Nicole has been a longtime style icon for me, so to see her looking such a mess is disappointing. Let’s break it down:
What she did wrong:
You want to wear the dress, not have the dress wear you. The bow is a major distraction – but not even the worst part of the dress (see below).
What’s up with the multi-tiered ombre skirt and black lace overlay bodice? She looks like she over-dressed for the prom.
What she should have done:
A better way to get her bow fix would have been this Diane von Furstenberg Granno Panne Velvet dress ($345). It’s pretty and feminine – not scary and over-the-top.
Another pretty way to wear silver without overwhelming is this flattering Lafayette 148 New York Drop-Waist dress ($498). Wear it with black peep toe pumps for a cocktail party, or a black cardi for work.
Hit the asymmetrical trend and sequins trend with this ABS Sequined One Shoulder dress ($240) – the perfect party dress.
Wear silver/gray in the daytime with this effortless Juicy Couture Gathered Sleeve dress ($158). You’ll love the ombre stripes and sleeve detail.
