Olivia Palermo’s Red Carpet Miss | How Not To Wear Florals

Olivia Palermo must think she’s pretty and thin enough to wear pretty much anything – because she walked out of the house in this Laura Ashley mu-mu (circa 1985) to the Fashion Night Out’s runway show last night. This off the shoulder number looks like something a Southern belle (or DJ Tanner) would have worn on Easter when they were five years old. Let’s try this again:

This is not how you wear florals this fall (or on a red carpet) – avoid pastel, bedsheet-looking patterns like Olivia’s.

Try 80′s trends – like off the shoulder or floral patterns – just not all at the same time.

What she should have done:

To wear florals in a more sophisticated, modern way, grab a sexy dress like this DIANE von FURSTENBERG “Laura” Herringbone Silk Floral Printed Dress ($298) that has black as the base color. This makes the floral really pop – as opposed to lie flat (like a bed sheet).
