Spring Dresses That Hide Your Tummy ‘Til You Get To the Gym

Spring brings many wonderful things: sunshine, flowers, longer days…but also less clothing.  Shedding layers after a long cold winter can be a little intimidating if you’ve been neglecting your usual bikini diet or haven’t hit the gym since the flowers were last in bloom.  Luckily, we’ve found dresses to hide extra belly weight that may be lingering from the winter months.  Don’t resort to wearing a loose sack or boring black all spring, embrace color and trends and learn how to dress for your body type with these five spring dress styles.

Peplum

If you’re feeling self conscious about a protruding belly, a peplum style ruffle will do the trick.  This two-toned Jay Godfrey number (on sale for $132) switches from purple to black at the smallest part of your waist, and then puffs out to hide problem areas like stomach and love handles.

Empire Waist

Empire waist dresses are a great go-to when you’re feeling bloated, then throw in ruching below the bust line and you’ll never need to wear a pair of Spanx under this dress.  This Ella Moss dress ($162) hugs above the hips and makes jersey flattering with a corseted style of gathered fabric.

Draping

You don’t need to stick to dark colors to look slim; draped fabrics make pale shades appear flattering.  This Ali Ro mini ($264) distracts the eye away from the stomach in two ways by draping and crossing the body in one direction on top, and another on the bottom.  The Grecian goddess look can be as comfortable as that toga you wore to party in college.

Wrap Dress

DVF basically invented the wrap dress and her spring line brought bright colors to the classic look.  Cinch the waist on this deep red number ($325) as tight or as loose as you want to create a curvy silhouette.

We’ve got more spring trends to pair with any of these dresses with our guides to spring fashion trends, including spring shoe trends and trench coats.  Be in the know for all the best sales and deals, and check out our list of all of this week’s online sample sales.
