As discount shoppers, we were delighted to hear that in the U.K. right now there’s a £35 dress (that’s $55) that’s causing quite a stir. The modest black dress, which was designed by Pearl Lowe (mother of Daisy Lowe), sold out at British budget retailer Peacocks and now everyone, including Courtney Love, is clamoring to get one. We thought Mulberry for Target selling out was bad: for the first time in Peacocks’ 126-year history, they had to set up a waiting list (how Hermes Birkin bag of them).
If you love the prim, white-collared look, check out a few substitutions we found:
This Topshop Petite Velvet Peter Pan Lace Collar Dress ($190) pretty much nails the look – you will love the long sleeves for fall and the babydoll cut.
This ASOS Peterpan collar jersey dress ($40.43) is even cheaper than the Peacock version, and has 3/4 length sleeves that are perfect for the season.
A more dressy version, this L’Agence Wool-blend dress ($370) is perfect for cocktail and holiday parties. Just add tights and some heeled Mary Janes.
This flowy Modcloth Sweet Darling Dress ($79.99) has a vintage feel – so Mad Men – and has a more detailed, intricate color.
