Wear Now & Later: The Chambray Shirt
Here, we’ll take one spring essential you won’t regret investing in, and show you how to wear it now, and then again all next season. First, a word on the chambray shirt. In the ’90s, it was something you’d see on moms like Martha Stewart and the Desperate Housewives while gardening. Now, it’s been re-invented, and worn with the right pieces, it takes on new meaning–now through spring.
This classic Old Navy denim workshirt ($27) is tailored to show your feminine shape but has a little bit of slouch so it doesn’t look too serious. Wear layered with tanks underneath, or with lots of necklaces for a more contemporary look.
For now:
It’s all about layers here: the chambray shirt can be worn over a white tank, and then topped with a warm layer, like this Vince long grey scarf ($98) to start.
Then pile on this Central Park West chunky sweater jacket ($130) with a pair of your favorite jeans from a few seasons ago, plus some really great vintage shoes, like these burgundy boots from Enigma ($92).
For later:
Tuck your Old Navy chambray shirt (with three buttons undone) into a pair of these Citizens of Humanity black skinny jeans ($132).
Then top it off with a pair of rock ‘n roll sunglasses by A.J. Morgan ($19), and some chunky leather sandals, like these from Dolce Vita ($155).
