Marilyn Monroe’s Iconic “Subway Dress” Expected To Auction For Up To $2 Million
The dress is often referred to as the “Subway Dress” because of the picture of Marilyn, left, standing atop a subway grate.
The “Subway Dress” (pictured above), which appears in perhaps one of the most iconic images of Marilyn Monroe to date, is going up for auction later this month and is expected to garner between $1 and $2 million, the Los Angeles Times reported. The legendary dress, featured in the 1955 film The Seven Year Itch, joins several other famed pieces from Debbie Reynolds’ collection of Hollywood costumes—including Judy Garland’s blue and white gingham Wizard of Oz dress and one of Charlie Chaplin’s bowler hats. The auction will take place June 18th in Beverly Hills.
