How To Wear Fall's Metallics To Work Without Looking Like A Vegas Showgirl
August 28, 2012
If the fall 2012 runways have anything to say about it (of course they do), metallics are back with a vengeance. This season, everything from glamorous, polished silver to girly 70s-inspired rose gold is poised for a serious comeback, but transforming flashy metallics into office-appropriate daywear can be tricky. If you’re worried about sticking out like a bronzed thumb from your corner cubical (or, worse, looking like you’re ready for Bingo night), follow these quick styling tips for a smooth transition into the trend. Shine on, ladies!
1. Try a small dose of metallic to start. Tone down a loud piece like a glittery sweater, gold-finished trousers or sparkly booties with basic neutrals like black skinny jeans or a fitted blazer. You may even be able to get away with a collar necklace, just make sure it’s not too blingy.
2. While we’re usually advocates for thinking outside the color box, keep your metallics to the usual suspects like gold and silver, venturing out only in typically office-safe silhouettes. Keep in mind: neon and metallic are mutually exclusive.
3. If you work in an ultra-conservative environment, consider getting your metallic fix through accessories like rings, necklaces, or an iPad/cell phone case. Just save the arm parties for after work. Indulge in two trends at once in a restrained way by getting your metallic fix through a subtly chic cap toe pump.
