This holiday season, I know what I’ll be getting my
self artsy-fartsy friends: the NARS x Andy Warhol Holiday makeup collection. Beauty fanatics and fans of the iconic pop artist, behold a two-part collection that is both clever and culturally relevant (well, if you love the 70s, that is): highlights include a ‘Debbie Harry’ cheek & eye palette and even ‘Soup Can’ nail polish. NARS’ founder and creative director, François Nars, whose already paid tribute to Warhol in the past (see: NARS’ Edie Eyeshadow and Chelsea Girls Lip Lacquer), seems as excited as a kid in a candy shop about the line. He told WWD:
I first discovered Andy’s work when I was maybe 12 or 13 years old. I remember being so drawn to the colors — so bright and graphic. Andy continues to be one of the most influential figures in both contemporary art and pop culture. Andy said, ‘If everybody’s not a beauty, then nobody is.’ This is the same sentiment I wanted to bring to life with Nars.
For those of you counting down the days, the line comes in 2 phases: the first, at Sephora on October 2, and the second at department and specialty stores on November 1. The department store version includes a Silver Factory set ($200), Edie set ($75) and Beautiful Darling set ($49). Both lines will include a 16-piece color set (5 nail polishes, highlight brush, eyeliner, pencils, and 5 new lip glosses).
Confused yet? Basically, there will be enough NARS x Andy Warhol to go around. Get excited.
