Whether we’ve begged a friend for a sip of water or asked to split a milkshake for dessert (can’t resist that whipped cream, though), we’ve all shared a drink or two at some point in our lives. However, it turns out that’s actually a really detrimental habit.

Sharing drinks or anything that causes saliva transfer is a breeding ground for dangerous diseases like mumps, strep throat, and even the deadly meningococcal meningitis. Those aren’t the only diseases you’re risking when you share drinks. You can also transmit herpes (cold sores) and mononucleosis also known as “the kissing disease” just by helping a friend out. So, how about we stop sharing our spit with each other and get our own dessert? Sounds like a good plan.
