Going out to eat a restaurant is a fun time. You get together with a person or group of people who you think are truly awesome and enjoy food that you think is even better. Just kidding, (not really).

We would hope that when we go out to eat, the restaurant of our choice is sanitized to the max and extremely clean. Sometimes, that just isn’t the case and that is why you always need to ask for a cup of hot water. Hot water can actually kill a lot of different types of bacteria and is super useful for a multitude of purposes, like cleaning your silverware. A study conducted at Ohio State University actually found that water temperatures as low as 75.2 degrees were actually effective in removing some forms of E. Coli and Listeria from contaminated dishes.

If you are having doubts about how clean your dishes are or you are a germaphobe like me, make sure to bother your waiter for some hot water (not tea). It definitely couldn’t hurt to give your table one last wipe down before you go in on the food!
