.: Designer Bags
Louis Vuitton offers a fresh take on the popular Monogram Canvas
line with the Monogram Cherises. Each bag in the Cherises collection
sports a set of red, smiling cherries that add color to the normally
brown and tan Monogram print. Watch the other designers fall
all over themselves trying to come up with something half as
iconic as this. Jessica Simpson's already been spotted with a
Monogram Cherise slung over her shoulder. Find it at eLUXURY
or on eBay,
but beware of fakes.
The Coach Optic
Signature series with cute bug Appliqués is similar
to the Cherises with the cherries, with Coach putting a spin
on its signature Soho bags with dainty bees and spring bugs.
The Chanel
2.55 handbag is a a re-issue of the iconic quilted bag,
so-named for the date it debuted: February 1955. This iconic
design is desired by all fashion followers. The 2.55 is practical
and beautiful, and the quilted pattern - inspired by jackets
worn by jockeys - makes this Chanel handbag especially strong. Jackie
O., Penelope
Cruz, and all
the magazine editors are Chanel fans. Dying to get one?
The wait list at Chanel stores is as ridiculous as when it
debuted 50 years ago. Your best bet is to to go
vintage or score
one on eBay. Note - the real Chanel 2.55 does not have
the interlocking C's.
To have a list of "it" bags and not include the Detective
Handbag from Christian Dior would be criminal. This frame-shaped
purse is a gorgeous way to accessorize your spring wardrobe.
The exterior of the bag features oversized "C" and "D" charms
while the inside is lined in tan and white logo flowers. This
eye catching classic is made of smooth leather with top stitch
detail and features two front pockets, protective metal feet,
and a rugged leather handle. The leather Detective has been
spotted in the hands of celebrities such as Christina Aguilera
and Uma Thurman and will set you back a pretty penny (up to
$1600 or more) in various places online. Check eBay and MSN
shopping.
.: Saddle Bags
Once a preppy staple, the saddle bag style is undergoing a renewal.
Not surprising - saddle bags offer a more casual alternative
to a structured satchel without looking too costumey.
The Chloe Paddington,
with its heavy leather and oversized brass hardware, was the
perfect style to be reinterpreted as a Saddle
Bag. It's roomy enough for everything but more structured
than a hobo. The adjustable strap can be let out enough to wear
it across your body, or just hang it at your side. Find it on eBay.
If you like the Chloe Paddington Saddle, you might also want
to look at the BCBG Girls
Barcelona Flap Bag.
At $121.95, it's less than 1/10 the cost of the Chloe. Find it
at Zappos.
For a super steal, take a look at the Asos Padlock
Saddle Bag. Find it for a mere $19 at Asos.
.: The Textured Satchel
With all the tailored looks being shown in fashion, it's about
time that structured, ladylike bags were once again at the forefront.
Marc Jacobs Quilted
Venetia Bag is
as luxe as it gets. This bag has all the details that have
become something of a Marc Jacobs signature. Like the 2 front
patch pockets, gold tone push lock closures and buckles, suede
lining, and snap and zip interior pockets. Find it at Saks for
$1200.
If $1200 is out of your range, try the Isabella Fiore Cory
Laced Satchel.
It's similar to the Marc Jacobs in many ways: the heavy hardware,
the textured body, even the same off white color (perfect for
Spring and Summer). You can find this one at Saks as
well, but for a more reasonable $575.
.: The Ethnic Inspired Tote
It is really beginning to look like Bohemian chic is here to
stay. One of the nicest examples of this continuing trend is
Oscar de la Renta's Turquoise
Stone Tote. It's got a cotton body embroidered with beads
made of turquoise and wood in a geometric pattern. Lengthy tan
leather handles and gold accents complete the look. Semi precious
stones and handiwork - not to mention a designer name - doesn't
come cheap, unfortunately. It's $1975 at Neiman
Marcus.
While it doesn't have near the amount of handwork, The large Sierra
Carryall from
Cole Haan has a similar feel with a beautiful embroidered ethnic
pattern. It also touches on another popular trend in handbags:
braided leather. Find it at Nordstrom for
$395.
Hobos continue to be as popular as ever. They're one of the
most comfortable bags to carry and fit into so many different
styles.
Lately, I've been noticing a lot of soft hobos with drawstring
details like the Carla
Braided Leather Hobo from Kooba. Here, the drawstring is
braided (a huge trend) and woven through oversized grommets,
evoking a nautical feel. The distressed waxed leather body and
brass accents look nice and casual. This is quickly displacing
the Sienna as the Kooba "it" bag to carry. Find it at Neiman
Marcus for $650.
A budget alternative to the Kooba is DKNY's
Leather Hobo. It also features a braided drawstring and
roomy interior, but you can get it for 1/2 the price of the
Carla. Find it at Bloomingdales for
$325.
.: The Straw Basket
There is no bag that represents warm weather months in a timeless
fashion as much as an oversized straw basket. This year is no
exception.
The Dior Wicker & Raffia
Tote is
an absolute splurge. Woven with intricately patterned wicker,
edged in pink calfskin, raffia flowers dotted with sequins
and beads, and jewel-finish CD charms make this is the ultimate
in luxury. Find it at eLUXURY for
$1,495.
The Tommy Bahama Beachcomber
Tote,
with it's olive green trim is far more reasonable at $238.95.
Find it at Zappos.
