Bizarre Alert: Vera Wang was where?

Mar 30, 2006

photo: autostock

Ok, Vera herself wasn’t anywhere near a race track.  But her name was.  Plastered on the hood of the #49 BAM Racing Dodge for all 75 million Nascar fans to see.  I happen to know that the 49 is not a very strong car at the moment and the team has a rookie driver.  What was Vera thinking?!  Another superstar designer selling out?  Not really, the primary sponsor of the 49 is Serta. You know the mattress company with the talking sheep?  That’s them.  Vera Wang has taken her bridal empire to yet another audience in teaming with Serta to design beds featuring elements of Vera Wang style, including her company’s triple-heart monogram. The collection debuted in Vegas with models decked out in Wang wedding creations.  The least expensive option is $999 for beds that mark Serta’s 75th anniversary. The $1,299 beds are tied to Serta’s partnership with the Susan G. Komen Foundation.  The $1,499 beds are keyed to a bridal theme.  The bridal business is a $120 million dollar market and now your mattress can match your gown.  And the Nascar team sponsorship?  Well, Nascar’s fan base is almost 50% female and sponsors like Tide, Betty Crocker, and Cheerios have been joined by the likes of Vassarette lingerie.  I’ll cut Vera some slack, the fact is- I’d never have known if I hadn’t been watching…

A Find: In the Loop

imageWhat: MIU MIU Belt

Why: I’m ecstatic about the belt comeback. It can do so much for a simple outfit, add color, some sparkle. But most of all, belts make a statement. They help solidify the specific look you’re trying to achieve. Whether it’s sophisticated career woman or sexy biker chick, a belt can get you there. Miu Miu has come out with a bunch of belts in its spring/summer ‘06 collection.  This takes first place for its gorgeous colors, unique shape, and simple closure. Picture this: blue jeans and a white shirt with cute wedges and this belt. Perfection, no? That’s just one example.
