Enough Already! No More Pajamas in Public

I don't know where it started or how, but public pajama wearing has gotten way out of control. Previously a fashion crime committed largely by teenagers, this look has somehow infiltrated malls, supermarkets, and restaurants worldwide. Grown adults are showing up everywhere in Crocs and bunny-printed loungepants.

Even more worryingly, this almost distinctively American faux-pas has made it all the way down under, causing an uproar in New Zealand schools. They blame Snoop Dogg, for sporting slippers in airports and even worse, shopping in Paris. Snoop, we love your doggy style, but your taste in footwear needs some guidance. This trend is not alarming in its newness, but rather that it appears to be gaining momentum. TLC's Clinton Kelly refers to it as the "casualization of America." Fashionistas are fond of saying that you are what you wear. When you dress schlumpy, you feel schlumpy.

As a working mom, I know that the last thing you want to do when you get home from work or get dressed on the weekend is don something restrictive or itchy. But the explosion of haute leisurewear over the past few years leaves no excuse for wearing your PJs anywhere besides bed. Anthropologie's casual offerings include a soft, sweet black hoodie and comfortable, coordinated yoga pants for your Saturday Starbucks fix. Norma Kamali teamed up with Everlast for these funky, navy sweats . And Stella McCartney's line for Adidas allows you to remain stylish in your sneakers with fancy kicks in on trend silver-gray. So please, save the bunny slippers for when you're down with the flu.

I couldn't agree more with this!

I just posted on a similar subject the other day - I've had it with people at my college wearing pajamas to class and did a rant about it!

*blush* I have to be honest that I used to be one of them - wearing pjs to class.

But then, I came to realize that what you wear really affects how you act and how you are perceive. Wearing PJ made me feel lazy all the time (duh, of course) and totally killed my productivity. Plus, it's unprofessional.

That being said, I love the idea of these cute and comfy outfits, but not sure if I want to spend that much money on them.

I have to admit though I live in my lululemon yoga pants -- I even sleep in them sometimes - so does that count as pajamas?

Hmm, I don't know about this one....college students who wear pajamas to class is one thing. But I live in a city and I don't really see many women wearing full-blown pajamas to shop in or to wear to restaurants.

I agree with the comment above! lounge wear and leisure wear are two different things. and honestly i don't think a woman who will go online and buy an $80 pair of track pants has been wearing bunny printed pajama pants and bunny slippers out to dinner. this argument is pretty off base!
