Trend Alert: Foho—Hot or Not?

Jun 06, 2007

imageWhat Is Foho? No, it’s not a blend of fugly and boho, although that’s what you might think at first glance. In fact, “Foho” is described by the Telegraph as “a more understated, eclectic mix, fusing classic Boho elements - Seventies silhouettes, crochet trims and trippy hippie prints - with more subtle folk pieces, such as washed-out denim and traditional embroideries.”

The Trend: The queens of boho—Kate Moss and Sienna Miller—are leading the trend followed by Kirsten Dunst, Lindsay Lohan and Mischa Barton. This trend is sticking, so dig out those high-waisted jeans, peasant tops, patchwork prints, long necklaces, tie-dye anything, funky trainers, maxi dresses and gladiator sandals.

The Reality: As Radar puts it, foho is just another excuse “to look like $&!*.” Good point. However, this look doesn’t have to resemble an agglomeration of bad fashion from the ‘70s if you just stay true to yourself.

Unless you’ve got that hippie vibe buried deep inside you, don’t risk trying to pull off a full-blown hippie chick ensemble; you’ll look more like a bad pair of curtains than a chilled-out flower child. Stick to one or two old-school pieces and modernize the look with something current like an “it" bag. We’ve thrown together a few safe pieces to test out below.

Your Opinion? Is this just another fashion disaster popularized by the celebs wearing it or is it actually something fashionable? You tell us.
