Burgundy Is 'The New Black' For Fall, According To The Likes Of Nina Garcia
July 16, 2012
According to Nina Garcia‘s Pinterest, fall’s burgundy trend is so pervasive that the rich, wine color is “the new black.” Sure, that’s the most over-used expression in fashion, but Nina is on to something. Heavyweights like Zac Posen, Alexander McQueen, Herve Leger, Badgley Mischka and Rachel Zoe all sent burgundy designs down the runway for fall. And so it is fitting that we’ve chosen burgundy for our inaugural Fall Preview column, dedicated to the emerging trends of the new season. (We know that it’s July, and you’re thinking more about swimsuits than sweaters at the moment, but fall dressing is just around the corner!)
So, back to burgundy. The bold, bordeaux shade took every form on the fall runways: as tailored pant suits, draped evening gowns, oversized coats, and more. If you’re feeling sheepish, try a burgundy accessory, like Victoria Beckham’s leather tote bag or a pair of burgundy ‘Justine’ pumps from Boutique 9 (they’re just $190!). Embrace burgundy this year, and jettison the traditional (and boring) autumn tones, like brown and army green. And before you know it, you’ll be rocking burgundy dresses as if they were your favorite LBD. Right, Nina?
