For many people, fancy is synonymous with the word expensive. However, it's a misconception that in order to look like a street style star, you have to spend a ton of money on your wardrobe. There are some easy and cheap ways to elevate your outfit from good to great. Click through the slideshow to discover the simple ways you can make your outfit look so much fancier.

Get It Tailored

Both Harper's Bazaar and Cosmopolitan agree that the number one way to make your outfit look more expensive is to get it tailored. A few stitches can instantly transform an outfit. I'm a firm believer in getting even the cheapest clothing tailored. As an avid Forever21 shopper, I often find great pieces (like this strapless jumpsuit) that just needs a little love from a tailor in order to look perfect. It usually only costs a couple of dollars to get a skirt taken in or have the straps of a dress adjusted. Trust me, it's worth every penny. Plus, you can tell everyone your outfit is "customized" for you.

Make Sure It's Freshly Pressed

Easiest, cheapest tip ever: always make sure your clothing is freshly pressed. This will give your outfit a fresh, clean look. Even the most expensive top will look cheap if it's full of wrinkles. Harper's Bazaar points out, "Taking the extra five minutes to steam or press your look will add instant polish to even your most worn-in wardrobe MVPs."

Invest In Classic Outerwear

Avoid trendy, cheap outerwear. Instead, invest in classic coats. A basic leather jacket or fitted trench coat can upgrade any outfit. These jackets will never go out of style, so it's worth spending a little extra money on these pieces. Plus, who doesn't feel like a rockstar walking down the street in a bomb leather jacket?

Pick A Polished Handbag

A handbag doesn't need to be pricey to look polished and classic (case in point: any handbag by Cuyana). Stick with simple shapes and finishes. These purses will enhance your outfit. Bonus tip: Always keep handbags shiny and clean to help them look their best.

Makeup Matters

You can change the entire vibe of your outfit with a little lipstick. A bright red lip instantly makes you look like you're put together. It can make a basic outfit look fancy in less than a minute.

Keep It Simple

Want to guarantee that your outfit will look good? Keep it simple. Harper Bazaar suggests dressing in tonal colors like all white or all black. Prints can look trendy or dated, but a monochrome outfit always looks intentional and put together. Another safe bet is all black and white outfits.
