The maid of honor is an important role to have for a wedding—she’s basically the bride’s right-hand girl during the planning phase, as well as the day of the event. These nine reminders will ensure that she is able to perform her duties (and have a great time) on the big day.

Hand the bouquet back.

It’s the MOH’s job to hold the bride’s bouquet during the ceremony, and with all of the excitement that happens once the happy couple are pronounced man and wife, it might be easy to forget to hand the bouquet back to her for the walk up the aisle.

Check the bride's hair and makeup.

It’s all about the bride, of course, but that doesn’t mean the MOH shouldn’t care about her own appearance. Let her take a moment to touch up her makeup and check on her hair before photos start getting snapped before the reception.

Take a bathroom break.

It’s a long day, and if it were a particularly long ceremony, all of the bridesmaids should get some time for a trip to the ladies room. And the MOH is also in charge of helping the bride with her dress during her trip to the bathroom.

Eat.

Not only should the maid of honor fix a plate for the bride during the cocktail hour, but she should also remember to get something for herself, too.

Greet guests.

While the bride and groom (and their parents) are the official hosts for the event, you should still offer to lend a hand if any of the guests need anything or have any questions.

Keep everyone on track.

Although the couple have said I do, the maid of honor should still make sure that all of the bridesmaids know where they need to be for photos, during toasts and wherever else the brides needs them to be during the event.

Bustle the dress.

During all of the excitement, the bride might forget to bustle her dress before the first dance. The MOH should be on hand to remind her and help her out with the task.

Don't drink too much.

Once the ceremony is over and the cocktail hour begins, it might be tempting to get the party started and indulge a bit too much in the open bar. But the maid of honor still needs to be able to help out the bride throughout the entire event, so getting too tipsy is just not a good idea.

Make sure everything wraps up nicely.

Once the reception is over, the maid of honor should help to make sure the gifts and any other items that need to be cleared out of the venue and makes its way to the bridal suite or the couple’s home.
