Taking care of your metabolism calls for eating the right foods for your body. Dairy products like milk, cheese, and of course ice cream, have terrible reputations, which cause people to cut them out of their diets. But, you're not doing your metabolism any favors by doing that.

That's right, by depriving your body of dairy you're actually slowing down your metabolism, says nutritionist Tammy Lakatos, RD. "There's some evidence that calcium deficiency, which is common in many women, may slow metabolism," she told Prevention

Missing out on all the calcium you need will definitely make an impact on your metabolism. Research shows that fat absorption from other foods can be cut down by the calcium found in dairy foods, like fat-free milk and low-fat yogurt.

However, you still need to be cautious about what kinds of dairy products you eat. Choosing full-fat milks and cheese will definitely make you gain weight, so go for healthier dairy options made with low-fat or skin milk. Your waistline and metabolism will thank you for this!
