Among a million other decisions, you utlimately have to choose a wedding veil length. Seems easy enough, right? Eh, maybe not. Turns out, there's shoulder length, knee length, floor length, cathedral length, chapel length, and waltz length, just to name a few. So, you might have a trickier decision on your hands than you thought. While you sort through all these overwhelming length styles, there's one crucial detail you need to remember.

Just like your wedding dress, your veil should also match the formailty and tone of your venue. But, when picking out a veil length, most brides forget to factor in their venue, especially if it's outdoors.

According to Mary Ruth Cherry, bridal consultant at Rebecca's Wedding Boutique, a long veil and outdoor venues don't mesh well. "If their wedding is outside and they're considering a cathedral length veil, which is 110-120 inches, they may forget it might snag on twigs and leaves," says Cherry. "This will cause the veil to pull a little at the crown of the head."

Cherry also says that, unless the bride has her dress on, she might forget the exact silhouette and styling of the dress while veil shopping. "It would be hard to determine a proper length, like at her elbow, her fingertips, her waist, or where the gown breaks at the train," says Cherry.

When you go wedding veil shopping, there's a lot more to keep in mind than just which material will mesh well with your dress. If you have your heart set on a long veil, make sure you keep your venue in mind. It's also wise to have your dress on hand when you try on different veil lengths to determine which one works best IRL. This takes the guessing out of veil shopping, and it will run much more smoothly. There's no need to turn into a Bridezilla if you remember these tips!
