Former Olympic Gymnast McKayla Maroney Slams Plastic Surgery Rumors, Is Making Music Now
August 15, 2016
For those of you who don’t remember, McKayla Maroney was the USA gymnast whose “unimpressed” face went viral during the 2012 Olympic games in London.
Anyway, a lot has changed for the former gymnast in the past four years. McKayla is no longer impressed with gymnastics (jk, she actually quit for health reasons, which is sad) and has decided to pursue a different career: music. She is releasing her first single “Ghost” on September 8th, according to Us Weekly. She tells the mag, “I like to say my genre is vulnerable pop because it’s all melody and lyrically driven and heart driven,” adding that her, “favorite thing to sing about is love.”
She’s also dealt with plastic surgery rumors in her post-gymnastics life. Earlier this year, many fans speculated that she had lip injections based on her recent Instagram posts and this video that came out during the Olympic trials.
“I literally have not done anything to my face,” McKayla told Seventeen. “Growing up in the social media world, it’s tough. Your face changes, you get older, your face fills out, and you fall into liking makeup and different stuff like that. … Makeup and a camera can really make you look like a different person.” She credits lip liner and highlighter for her new look, just like every other teen/twentysomething these days. Can the girl just live??
