I Don't Understand Why Everyone Is Obsessing Over The 'Shake It Off' Video
August 22, 2014
Taylor Swift dropped a ton of bombshells on us earlier this week: a single, music video and release date for her next album. Now, it was no Beyoncé move, but people are pretty amped up about this news. So the SHEfinds staff had to see for themselves what the fuss is all about. We watched the “Shake It Off” video yesterday and our reaction was unanimous: “THIS is what everyone is obsessing over?”
I just don’t get it. Yes, I will admit, the song is catchy. I listened to it once and it was stuck in my head allllll night. But the voice doesn’t even sound like the same girl on “22,” which only came out two years ago. The first line, “I stay up too late,” isn’t even recognizable. It’s auto-tuned! She sounds like an Ariana/Demi/Selena copycat.
Now for the video itself, well, I won’t get into this twerking business, because that’s a whole other conversation, but here’s my main problem with it: how are we supposed to feel bad for you, T.Swift? You sing about people judging you for your awkward dance moves and inability to keep a guy, yet your a famous 5’10 skinny blonde chick. I don’t feel sorry for you that you have these #girlproblems (haters gonna hate, hate, hate, right??). You can even do a decent body roll!! (See 1:30) We’re not all gorgeous pop/country stars like you. Will shaking it off really help? What happened to the girl “on the bleachers” who actually didn’t seem geeky at all but kinda chill and down to earth?
What do you guys think of the video? Watch it below and leave us a comment!
