In Celebration Of The Spiral: The Curl Makes The Girl

What: Radiant, alluring curls

image

Why: Recently, the Bravo network's 'Millionaire Matchmaker', Patti Stanger, revealed that she was a raging curl-ist. She advised one bachelorette to straight-iron her spirals, because "men like long, silky hair", and told another curly haired gal that she "looked like a brillo pad". Is that not absurd? And really un-2008? We at SheFinds believe that all kinds of hair can be beautiful. And apparently most women do too: according to a survey conducted by ouidad.com, a website that celebrates the curl, 68% of women feel more attractive with curly hair, 74% would choose curls for a big night out, and 80% would wear their hair curly on a first date. So this post is for all you curly-haired damsels out there–give your hair the care it deserves, and you'll never lament your locks again!

The most fundamental treatment for curly hair is a de-frizzer. John Frieda's Frizz-Ease Extra Strength Hair Serum ($9.09) is a standard, or you could try the higher-end salon product Sebastian Potion 9 ($14.99). Get yourself one or both–just remember that this product is a must-have!

If you've already got a de-frizzer, and are looking for a more comprehensive hair regimen to tame your mane, the best products are from Ouidad. The company has a whole line of specialized products, designed to boost, tame, quench, remedy, and finish your style. We particuarly like the idea behind this Clear and Gentle Shampoo ($13) which cleans deeply enough to get rid of product but delicately enough not to damage curly hair. Or this Botanical Boost Spray-in Conditioner ($16), which seals in mositure and infuses hair with aloe vera, one of nature's best healers.

So go ahead - embrace your curls! There are worse things in life than stealing Shakira's spotlight.

If you have curly hair, I would definitely recommend staying away from smoothing products like the John Frieda line. There’s actually a better way to take care of your curly and a website dedicated to that: naturallycurly.com. Totally changed the way I take care of my hair and how it looks. (And I’m not affiliated, just really grateful. :) )
