Joan Rivers Blames Lena Dunham's Clothes For Saying It's 'Ok To Be Fat'
March 27, 2014
We’re not exactly sure what gives 80-year-old Joan Rivers the authority to be the ultimate ‘Fashion Police,’ but she is, and she’s done it again. Defaming and making fun of actresses for what they wear and how they look is what Rivers does best, and Lena Dunham is her latest victim.
On Howard Stern‘s talk show last week, Joan Rivers made it clear that she is NOT a Dunham fan. While Howard Stern praised GIRLS saying its the funniest show he’s ever seen, Joan slammed the show and its creator/star, Lena Dunham, for her weight and appearance. Not only did Joan complain that Dunham shouldn’t wear dresses above the knee, but she then went on to explain that she can’t watch GIRLS when Dunham has a nude scene, because her size bothers her THAT much. Rivers said that she thinks the show, and Dunham herself are sending the wrong message: ‘It’s OK, stay fat. Get diabetes.’”
And of course, Joan just HAD to bring up Lena’s retouched Vogue cover photos from February saying, “She was on Vogue‘s cover looking gorgeous, you didn’t even know it was her.” Um, news flash, Joan… EVERYONE on the cover of Vogue is retouched! Right, Kimye?
But the real question here is not whether or not Dunham is sending the wrong message. Dunham is succcessful and comfortable in her own skin, no matter what size her dress is. Joan, on the other hand, is sending the message that girls have to be thin, which in today’s world, is not the case.
Luckily, Lena Dunham and her hit-show have a supportive fan club that love her and the hilarious show no matter what. So sorry Joan, but Dunham won’t be taking your fashion OR diet tips. Thanks.
