Kiehl's Moisture Balm Just Saved Me From Serious Dry Skin Embarrassment
January 18, 2016
Winter dryness is my nemesis. I have oily-prone skin and can pretty much go without wearing facial moisturizer for the rest of the year–but when winter comes, so comes the unsightly patches of dry skin around my nose and mouth. They’re terrible. Nothing is worse than having an upclose and personal conversation with someone who’s face is flaking off. Gross! To exacerbate the issue, I just went on a beach vacation where my skin got totally dried out from the sun, sea salt and chlorine–and so I was basically a human lizard when I got back. Cool guys.
Luckily, I had received a sample of Kiehl’s new Ultra Facial Deep Moisture Balm ($27.50) before I left, and it was sitting on my vanity when I returned home. Because of the whole sensitive skin thing (I swear just looking at some products makes me break out), I was incredibly nervous that using the balm would just mean swapping dryness for zits. But again, because of the whole lizard situation, I really had no choice and ended up using a very small amount (it’s incredibly silky) on my nostrils, corners of my mouth and chin.
The dryness was immediately improved upon application–I mean, completely gone. Some of the lighter moisturizers for sensitive skin that I’ve used actually don’t make dryness totally invisible when you put them on–but the moisture balm did. It was a huge relief for me to know that I could walk outside of the house without being painfully self-conscious of the dryness. I went on a date night to the movies with my husband and felt great. Woke up the next morning and the situation was nil. I applied some extra balm preventatively for the rest of the day, but the dryness never recurred. OMG killing it.
The absolute best part was that it did not make me break out. This is not what you’d expect from a product billed for “dry to very dry skin”–but it’s 100% true. I cannot recommend this to my fellow dry-skin babes, and have named it a SHEfinds Beauty Essential for 2016 (it also has a 5-star review here).
