Lena Dunham's VOGUE Cover: Yes, It's A Close-Up And Yes, It's Gorgeous
January 15, 2014
Girls fans were pretty perturbed to see that Allison Williams and Zosia Mamet had both scored features in (and on) major glossies this month, but the ladymags weren’t showing the show’s writer, director, star, and creator Lena Dunham any love. It was also weird to us that the woman responsible for the popular series–who also happens to be the main character, would get so little visibility in the wake of the show’s anticipated return. But it looks like our concerns were premature.
Just last week, an HBO exec confirmed that Lena would have “significant magazine coverage,” and it looks like this promise has come to fruition. Today, Vogue magazine revealed that their February cover girl is none other than Lena Dunham. Behold the close-cropped snap of the comedienne, a little hot under the collar in her red-and-white polka dotted blouse. Dunham strikes a bewildered pose, which we are kind of digging–it’s much more animated than the usual glamour girl shots the monthly usually churns out.
The accompanying spread, shot by Annie Leibowitz, is a series of images of the star, posing in various parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan. Our favorite snap? the one of Prada-clad Dunham lying on a bed with costar Adam Driver. The spread does look heavily photoshopped (we’re wondering what happened to Lena Dunham’s left arm in the aforementioned picture,) but that Prada dress is so gorge, we’re willing to forgive them.
The mag is set to hit newsstands January 28th. Click through the slideshow to peep the spread!
