SheFinds News: A Million Dollar Idea

imageIn her top-selling DVD, the comedian Kathy Griffin tells a story about not being able to find something in the dark black hole of her handbag. Griffin was at an important meeting when, in her fluster to sort through her handbag, tampons and prescription painkillers came spilling out. Someone needs to design a handbag with an inside that lights up, she quipped, “like a disco floor!” Griffin’s ire is shared by thousands of women everywhere – and Rosanna Kilfedder, a student designer at Britain’s Brunel University, heard their plea. Her Sun Trap handbag uses a solar battery attached to the outside of the bag to power the electroluminescent lining inside the bag. When the zipper opens, the inside of the bag lights up to a soothing blue light. Kilfedder’s design has won several student competitions; she is applying for a patent and aiming to get her design produced in the future. Keep an eye out. Meanwhile, check out our review on bags from Solas Fashion for some fashionable bags with lighting systems.
