A Trend We Hope Doesn?t Catch On: Biojewellery
June 20, 2005
If you’ve ever wanted to give a piece of yourself to your partner, literally, a group of scientists in England may be able to help you out. They’ve begun a project called Biojewellery which turns living bone tissue into rings with cheeky inscriptions like “From Within.” The process entails removing a tiny piece bone, preferably from a wisdom tooth extraction, to be bioengineered and mixed with traditional metals like silver or gold. It sounds kinda gross to us, but over 160 couples have already lined up to be used as the project’s guinea pigs. We hope that at the end of the project, the scientists reach the conclusion that most of us know already: there are plenty of ways to show your love that don’t involve a biopsy.
