What: Neutrogena Nourishing Eye Quads, $10

Why: Putting four shadow shades in one palette is a potential recipe for disaster; for every right way to create a smoldering eye look, I'm able to come up with about a dozen other combos that leave me looking like a post-match prizefighter.

Luckily, Neutrogena has those of us with multi-shade wariness covered with its line of Nourishing Eye Quads. Each disc of complementary color is clearly labeled as a base, highlighter, crease color, or accent color. I especially appreciated the lift-up label on the back with detailed, numbered illustrations.

I opted for the two-shade natural look for work, then boosted it up to a casual but dimensional look for evening by adding crease and accent shades as suggested by the pro makeup artist who provided the tips.

Bonus: The base tint has SPF 15 so your peepers are protected.

A Face-Bronzing How-To Guide (Instructional Cards Included) In A Wallet-Sized Package

What: Sonia Kashuk How to Create the Bronzed Face palette, $20

Why: First of all, I weirdly enjoy the fact that this product isn’t quite grammatically correct – it’s like some heavily accented European makeup artist talking right to me. And you know she knows more than I do about making me look more attractive.

But I digress. I liked this thing, because:
1. It includes little cards with clear instructions about apply the makeup. And they’re attached to the compact, so you’d have to try really hard to lose them.
2. The colors look decent (though not like they do on the Gisele-esque cover model) on my pale-girl skin, so you can probably wear them too.
3. Three shockingly un-sticky, moisturizing lip glosses. Yay.

They pay 10 pence per wink, up to a total of £100 per model (approx. $155 dollars). The transfer is temporary but the cash is real for as long as you can keep it in your pocket.

Umm, so this is kind of creepy if you ask us. Can you imagine sitting across a table from someone who had an advertisement on their eye? Could you actually see it behind long lashes?  If you try to tell them that their eye makeup is a little smudged and they tell you they're moonlighting as a billboard, do you congratulate their entrepreneurial spirit or hand them a Q-tip?

This is when red lipstick had its major fashion moment. Drugstore Find: Wet ‘N’ Wild Eyeshadow Trio Is Amazing (We Promise No Glitter)

Three dollars can buy you coffee. Three dollars can buy you a doughnut.

Why:  I remember Wet ‘N’ Wild from high school, mostly for its sparkly purple nail polish, which is still all over the floor in the bathroom I grew up sharing with my brother. However, somewhere along the way, the brand has morphed into an underrated line with products worth way more than their price tags. I’ve raved about the #666 lipliner in the past (the only one you’ll never need), and these trios are just as spectacular.

There are six trios in the line, each with coordinating light-to-dark colors: Belgian Chocolates, Amazon Greens (an especial favorite), Mojave Mauves, Venetian Violets, Island Blues, and Egyptian Sands.
