Brian Atwood’s First Handbag Collection Debuts On Gilt!
Ladies, hold on your hats (or should we say handbags): Milan-based footwear line Brian Atwood will debut its first foray into handbags on Gilt at noon (EST) today. The members-only site (and first of its kind), has been tapping like Kate Spade and Helmut Lang to create exclusive capsule collections, and Brian's collex is the latest to be picked. Brian Atwood's premiere collection features four styles (Carla, Iside, Kate, and Theodora) and includes exotic materials link watersnake leather, leopard print, pony hair, mother-of-pearl, and suede. The price ranges between $1,050 and $1,850, making these pieces the ultimate investment purchase for a night out and day dates. We love the envelope clutch 'Carla' in a colorblock pattern and an exotic print, while the 'Theodora' and 'Iside' minaudières could also serve as mini-vintage jewelery boxes. Check out our slideshow above for a sneak peek of the rest of the collection and don't forget to sign up at Gilt to make your purchase. The clock is ticking and you already have less than an hour! Exclusive: Preview Gilt’s Wedding Shop Loot A Day Early (Vera Wang, Reem Acra, More)
Tomorrow, 4/14, Gilt's Wedding Shop will launch at 12pm, and like any Gilt sale, scoping the merchandise ahead of time is the key to scoring big. Luckily, the folks at Gilt were nice enough to share more than 25 product photos with us: like Vera Wang, Reem Acra, Alberta Ferretti and Temperley London gowns, to Judith Leiber clutches, Stuart Weitzman pumps, and Kenneth Jay Lane jewelry. One highlight? A $59,000 diamond necklace going for $19,000. Whoa, Gilt. Sale end 4/17, but we doubt the inventory will last that long: (more…)
Gilt Noir: The Inside Scoop On Gilt’s Elite Rich Kid Club
We've always wondered about Gilt Noir, the actual invitation only site that online sample sale site Gilt Groupe quietly launched in January, for users like Gwyneth Paltrow and Google's Marissa Mayer, who spend at least $10,000 on Gilt over the course of a year. So we caught up with blogger and Gilt Noir member, Vie, of The Vie Society, who gave us the inside scoop on how the rich view Gilt: 1. First dibs: Ever wonder why everything sells out in minutes? Members can browse all of Gilt's sales 15 minutes before they start. Vie says, "It's like having the hookup with a senior Sales Associate at Bergdorf." According to Gilt, merchandise is a curated selection from a sale that will take place on Gilt a week or so later. 2. Hobnobbing with designers: Members are often invited to, say, preview the pre-spring Proenza Schouler collection along with Jack and Laz. If they're lucky, maybe they get a stare from Anna Wintour. 3. High roller merchandise: On Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon, Noir members can shop sales from high-end designers like made to order Rachel Roy, Hussein Chalayan, Nancy Gonzalez, Marchesa, and Mikimoto. Considering we can't afford any of that, we're not really too upset not to be invited. 4. Swag: While Gilt members receive the same generic message welcoming them to the site, Vie received a black candle, a black card, and a personal contact number in the mail inviting her to join Gilt Noir. Pretty fancy. For great sales that you can afford, check out our online sample sale page, and then see our guides to the best black dresses, the best floral dresses, and the best clogs.
Really (REALLY) Strange Beauty: Change Your Face Shape, And Not With Rhinoplasty
This might be the most alternative trend we've ever come across. Kids in Tokyo are getting their faces (or other body parts, but the face is the most interesting, apparently) injected with saline solution in order to create crazy, artsy shapes. We have no idea where you get this procedure in the U.S., but we hope the answer is nowhere. If you've somehow engaged in this trend and now need to smooth back out, or merely want to keep your skin taut in the first place, we like DDF Doctor's Dermatologic Formula Advanced Firming Cream. This is serious, scientific stuff that's a whole lot safer than Botox.
