Good Stuff From Cheesy Stores: A Hip Blazer At (Gasp) JCPenney On (Gasp) 34th Street

jcpenney long black blazer

What: Oxford & Regent Perfect Blazer, $40

Why: You know, JCPenney, I am not disappointed that I got up early on a Sunday to visit you. Because in a sea of questionable florals and mystery fabrics, I found a small corner of sweet, sweet black jersey, and beckoning from within said Corner Of Black Clothing, the Perfect Blazer.

It’s worth the $40 price tag.

It’s long and cool-looking, with scrunched-up sleeves and just one button. Structured enough to pull an outfit together, but not so suit-like that it feels like Careerwear (alas, it was not in a Careerwear section).

You’ll probably see me wearing it as soon as the subways aren’t 600 degrees.

Good Stuff From Mall Stores: Summer Scarf At Aéropostale

image

What: Tie-Dye Cloud Scarf, $10

Why: My mother and I used to make an annual pilgrimage to Aéropostale at the beginning of summer to stock up on cheap tanks and cargo shorts for camp. For nostalgia’s sake, I recently re-visited my old haunt, and was greeted by much of the same merchandise. But while my fourteen-year-old self would have freaked out over the babydoll tank in the window, this time my well-over-drinking-age ass got pretty giddy over a blue tie-dye cotton scarf on the sale rack.

And if Mom were still footing the bill, I would have grabbed the pink and yellow too.
