Beauty Police: Is Getting Your Roots Touched Up So Last Season?

We noticed an interesting trend this Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week,–and it had nothing to do with the clothes. We know the lived-in look is becoming cool, but a bevy of celebs–from socialites to models– were rocking what is generally considered a beauty faux pas: lots of roots.

The newest trends can always been found on three types of people: stylists, models, and socialites. From left, Rachel Zoe went bananas at the Proenza Schouler show by mimicking the models who were sporting dark roots with champagne blonde hair. At Narciso Rodriguez, socialite and Vogue contributor Lauren Santo Domingo reminded us how bad the recession must be if even socialites aren’t making extra trips to the salon.

Get the extra worn-in look by skipping a day or two of hair washing and instead use Bumble & Bumble Hair Powder ($17). Apparently, according to The New York Times and hairstylists across Manhattan, Blake Lively’s hair is the new “Rachel;” countless women have been requesting this Gossip Girl ‘do from their respective stylists. Now, we’re definitely jealous of Lively’s signature tresses, but take it from someone who actually got “the Rachel” oh so many years ago, not everyone is meant to have TV-star hair. I had to learn the hard way that Aniston’s stylish look was not meant for those of us blessed with curls. My suggestion is to stay away from the scissors and be a go-getter; here’s how to do the Serena ‘do yourself.

First things first: to get Blake’s powerful hair you’ll need a powerful hair dryer. Used by many a professional stylist, this Solano blow dryer got me through those tough post-Rachel years.

You’ll also need a top of the line round brush to create those luscious Lively curls – try Metropolis’ thermal hair brush, it actually features an antibacterial purification system (now that’s hi-tech) and removes odors from you coif.

Ombre Hair, In Case One Color Just Isn’t Enough

It’s bound to happen. You’ll get sick of your blonde/brunette/redhead locks and need to have multiple shades adorning your head, but certainly not in boring old highlight form. Topshop Wants To Straighten Your Hair (Actually, Only British Hair For Now)

We got a little worried when we heard the news this morning – Topshop is going to introduce small electronics on October 10, in the U.K., but we didn’t hear anything, either way, about the U.S. Sir Philip, did you forget about us?

It’s hard to tell from the photo, but this iron’s actually a cute mini device. When it was briefly introduced at one of Topshop’s London locations, it sold out in a few hours. Of course. Now, will it be given the opportunity to sell out stateside? We’ll keep you posted.
