Capes are some of the trickiest cold-weather gear out there. But after the past few winters, it seems apparent that they’re here to stay, and we say, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Below, our tips for rocking a cape like you just came back from a European vacay:

Be color conscious: Avoid wearing head-to-toe black, or you’ll look like Count Dracula (Transylvania: Europe? Not Europe? Not cute).

Short girls: Capes that fall about hip length are your best bet for body-lengthening illusions.

Tall girls: Capes that hit above your waist will make you look like you’re wearing your little sister’s winter coat — try a style that hits below the hip.

Length is the end-all be-all: No matter your height, stay away from capes that hit below the knee (Dracula strikes again!)

Sequins obviously stand out and turn heads, but it’s hard to not to look like a disco ball. However, sequins on tops, dresses, even shoes can actually be super hot and very in style. So follow our simple tricks because we’re about to tell you how to make sequins work:

Sparkle For A Night Out:

This MICHAEL Michael Kors Habiutal Sequin Dress ($150) is great for the skeptical. Now that it’s November, the weather is just going to get colder by the day. If you’re looking for something dressier than a puffy coat, a luxurious faux fur coat is perfect, and will keep you warm for years to come. Unfortunately, some spotted and furry styles conjure up images of Disney villain Cruella de Vil – which makes us weary about wearing them. Over the knee boots aren’t only perfect for a casual outfit, but they pull together the ultimate night out look.
