Get The Dish On All The Fashion From The Final Episodes Of Mad Men
Mad Men just had it's mid-season premiere on Sunday with an episode titled "Severance" (did you watch??), and for the die-hards out there you know that there are only a few episodes left until the show is gone forever. Sad face. We will especially miss the fashion, which has been so epic over the years it's spawned a Banana Republic line and countless Halloween costumes. The show's costume designer Janie Bryant spoke with InStyle this week to dish on what to expect in the final episodes. Head over to InStyle to see more pics and get more dish on the final episodes from Janie! [Photo: AMC]
There’s More Mad Men Looks To Choose From This Halloween: Joan, Peggy, Megan…
Ladies, this year is prime time for a Mad Men Halloween Costume, specifically the leading ladies of the show. Let's be real--group costumes are always more fun, so grab your friends and transform your Halloween into a swinging '60s party. Truth be told, Megan Draper, Peggy Olson, and Joan Harris really stole this season of Mad Men (yes, we left out Betty because yawn, she is a bit boring) so there's all the reason you need to dress up like one of them for Halloween. Plus, each lady has a distinctive style. Megan embodies the quintessential '60s mod scene; Peggy stays fast and true to her dull, conservative office style; and Joan opts for colored figure-forming dresses, detailed with broaches and neck scarves. We have it all for you--including some gogo boots we just think should be in your closet!--in the slideshow below. Looking for more Oct 31st inspiration? PHOTOS: Your First Look At Banana Republic’s Upcoming Mad Men Collection
We loved the first two Banana Republic x Mad Men collections, so you can imagine we were freakin' stoked to hear they were teaming up again for a third line. The next installment of the Banana Republic x Mad Men collab is scheduled to arrive on February 27, but we've got your first look today! Designed exclusively for Banana Republic in conjunction with Mad Men's costume designer Janie Bryant, the third Banana Republic x Mad Men collection is a modern take on the tailoring and classic silhouettes of the 60s. Of the new line, Bryant said " The collection embodies the 60s love for graphic prints, colors and boldness." So you want to see, right? Click through the slideshow to get your first peek at the new Banana Republic x Mad Men ad campaign featuring supermodel Coca Rocha. And mark your calendar! The full collection arrives next week! In other exciting collab news, check out Sophia Webster x Topshop, Rihanna x River Island and JW Anderson x Topshop.
Forget Fat Betty, This Year’s Best Mad Men Costume Is Megan Draper
In the fifth season of Mad Men, one woman stole the show: Jessica Paré, better known as Megan Draper. She not only found her way into the steely heart of Don Draper (nanny seductress-style), but she mesmerized audiences with her sultry rendition of 'Zou Bisou Bisou' for his birthday. Men wanted her and woman wanted to be her. Thankfully, becoming the infamous Mrs. Draper is rather simple for Halloween (although the gap-toothed smile cannot be emulated). First, find the right black, 60's swing dress with see-through sleeves. Pair with fishnet stockings and an oversize cocktail ring, line your eyes with deep-black eyeliner and elongate those lashes for the perfect finishing touch. Now to find your Don (and a tinge of a Canadian accent)! Looking for more Halloween inspiration? If The Drapers Had A Proper Wedding, This Is What Megan Would Wear #MadMen
"Mad Men" is finally BACK, after a whopping 17 month break - and the fashions are already buzzworthy. This season takes place in 1966, so the full skirts and crinolines have been traded in for sleek, sexy mini-dresses. Sadly, the wedding of Don and Megan took place off-screen, but there's still plenty of wedding inspiration to glean from all the swanky, 1960's party fashions. If you're having a mod-themed wedding, prepare to swoon! We've rounded up all the "Swingin' Sixties"-inspired wedding dresses we could find! (more…)

Thanks, Joan Holloway, For Bringing The Hourglass Silhouette Back To Bridal
When New York Magazine declared Christina Hendricks (aka Joan Holloway on Mad Men) "the return of voluptuous," we stood up and clapped - figuratively. Joan's influence now extends to wedding dresses, according to Wedding Gown Town, which highlighted 50s-inspired silhouettes as one of the top trends for 2011: (more…)
Move Over Lady Gaga, January Jones Is The Next Sunglass Icon
(...And you can actually see out of these.) If imitation is the highest form of flattery, January Jones should be pretty pleased with herself. Not only did we copy her this October with our Mad Men Halloween costume, but now Versace is launching an entire line of sunglasses line dedicated to her retro glam style--aptly named the January J collection, set to debut this summer. But Versace isn't the only designer to jump on the retro sunglasses bandwagon--everyone from Michael Kors to Tom Ford has débuted cat eye sunglasses for spring. (more…)
Christina Hendricks Causes Spike In Breast Implants; 5 Non-Surgical Solutions To Try Instead
Last summer we told you about the big butt and small boob trends, and now comes news that things have turned around - at least in the upper region. According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, the number of women having breast augmentations in England jumped by more than 10% last year, and Mad Men star Christina Hendricks was named as one of the causes for the spike in surgery. If you are interested in finding out more about breast augmentation in Austin, Texas visit Westlake Dermatology. Physicians are available to those looking for surgical options. Betty vs Joan: Which Mad Men Halloween Costume Would You Wear?
The ladies of Mad Men are hotter than ever this year and we love the idea of dressing up as them for Halloween, especially since the clothes are oh-so-covetable. With the Janie Bryant for QVC line, and so many vintage inspired dresses at ModCloth - it's especially easy this year: For starters, the curvaceous Joan Holloway, with her form-hugging dresses and mod accessories, is one costume that will make your guy's mouth drop. Paired with her signature red hair, this firey Wardrobe Essential Dress ($79.99) from ModCloth is exactly the type of piece Joan would wear around the office. But it earns bonus points for being totally wearable (and wallet-friendly!) in the real world, too. Leopard is everywhere this year, and this Janie Bryant MOD Retro Animal Print Handbag ($79.75) from Mad Men stylist Janie Bryant's QVC line, will be the perfect complement to your siren-red dress. Joan often accessorizes with brooches and this MOD Multi Color Floral Motif Pin/Enhancer ($72.50), also from Janie Bryant's QVC line, looks like it could have been found in a vintage store. Just throw on a pair of great pumps and a swipe of red lipstick, and you're all set, Ms. Holloway! But Joan isn't the only Mad Men-inspired Halloween costume we have in mind this year. There's also Betty Draper, whose more demure sexiness is wrapped up in ladylike frocks and lace gloves. This Rose Menagerie Dress ($117.99), also from ModCloth, has Betty Draper written all over it. And we're already planning on wearing it to garden weddings come spring. These White Cat-Eye Sunglasses ($11.91) look exactly like the ones Betty wears on Mad Men and, conveniently, the cat-eye trend is huge this year. Rock them with a leather bomber jacket once they've served their Halloween purpose! The key to this look, though, might just be a pair of sweet lace gloves ($2.98). If you'd like, add on a headband and a ladylike purse, and you're good to go! Feeling more Jersey Shore this Halloween? Find out how to turn yourself into Snooki. Or, go the pop star route as Lady Gaga or Katy Perry. Then, check out our guide to the best dresses, sunglasses, and brooches.

Red Carpet Re-Do: Christina Hendricks Dresses Like A Gothic Milkmaid
It's hard to argue that anyone in Hollywood right now is sexier than Mad Men's Christina Hendricks. The redheaded siren usually knows how to perfectly accentuate her famous curves and make every outfit look fabulous. Unfortunately, on her most recent red carpet, that was hardly the case. We're here to show Christina how to wear ruffles without getting eaten alive by them. What She Did Wrong: The fabric of the dress and the awkward layering of the ruffles, oddly reminded us that we need to take out the garbage Ruffles should never take over the entire dress--less is more When you're head to toe in black throw on some kind of colorful accessories so you don't look like you're headed to a funeral after the red carpet What She Should Have Done: Ruffles is one of the most elegant ways to dress for an evening event, but try to keep them to a minimum like with this mini number by French Connection ($168). Gold cut out heels by Cynthia Vincent ($162.25) add some glam to this LBD. Shine throughout the entire night in these adorable gold star earrings from Marc by Marc Jacobs ($58). If you feel like you need some more texture or just love ruffles as much as Christina does, try this ruffled flower clutch by Sondra Roberts ($98). Mad Men Style Coming Soon To A Bookstore Near You
As you know, we love the fashion of Mad Men. So we're excited for fall, when Mad Men's costume designer, Janie Bryant will reveal her secrets to styling in a new style book. Co-written by Monica Corcoran, the aim is to help you tap into your "inner leading lady." Until then, we have our own spin on nabbing the awesome Mad Men retro style starring sheath dresses that are slightly updated to reflect our time: If I had the guts of Joan, I would totally wear a bold red dress to the office. But since I don't, this slightly less audacious, but just as sexy and modern Silk Leopard Sheath Dress ($171) will suffice. To evoke the thoroughly modest Peggy through modern eyes, the tailored, cap sleeve Eliza J Plaid Dress with a flower embellishment ($99) has you covered. And finally, what would this homage be without looking to Mrs. Betty Draper. By far the chicest of the bunch, her LBD looks forward to 2010 where asymmetrical dresses, like this Maggy London Asymmetrical Stretch Satin Sheath Dress ($77) are the rage. For more retro style, see all of our Mad Men favorites and relive the show's best fashion moments in sheath dresses, and little black dresses and a great party dress that would make Betty Draper jealous.
Don And Betty Make Season Three Of Mad Men Go Out With A Bang
Last night's Mad Men season finale definitely left us wanting more. But it looks like we'll have to wait at least a few months before finding out if Betty and Don are really headed for splitsville and what kind of shenanigans will go on at the new Sterling Cooper Draper Price (sheesh, that's a mouthful). With her perfectly coiffed do, impeccable makeup and stylish ensemble, Betty looked cozy and cute even while breaking the divorce news to her kids. We've long loved Draper in those comfy-looking plaid pants, but the addition of an embellished cardigan really pulls her outfit together. For a similar look, we like Ann Taylor's retro wool sweater with bow embellishments or Boden's fun, bejeweled cardigan for an evening out. Not satisfied? We've got tons of trendy knits for you to choose from in our guides to the best in cardigans and v-neck sweaters.
The Ladies Of Mad Men Watch History Unfold In Style
The brilliant writers behind Mad Men did an excellent job of recounting the Kennedy assassination on last night's rather melancholy episode. But of course, in true Mad-fashion, even a national crisis couldn't stop the ladies and gents of Sterling Cooper from partying in their finest attire. Always glamorous, Betty wore a jacket with a luxurious white fur collar to the chic wedding of Roger Sterling's daughter. For a modern take on Draper's fancy look, try DKNY's fur trimmed jacket in an of-the-moment plaid or Bebe's cropped style for dressier occasions. In search of more fall to winter outerwear? Check out our guides to the best in faux fur and coat trends.
Even Betty Draper Cozies Up In Autumn Plaids
After last night's episode of Mad Men, Don's (multiple) secrets are definitely out, but for those of you who missed it, we'll leave the revealing to your DVR. What we're really interested in is the secret to the sleek ensemble Betty Draper wore during her big confrontation. If you don't remember, because you were distracted by the smoldering look in Jon Hamm's eyes, she had on perfectly cut plaid pants and a crisp, fitted turtleneck. To capture the autumn mood like Betty, choose Elie Tahari's plaid trousers for their feminine fit and trendy cropped cuff; on top, we suggest a merino wool sweater - this one comes in all colors of the J.Crew rainbow. Want to be Betty Draper for Halloween? We've got all the supplies you'll need, right down to fake cigarettes. And don't forget to check out our guides to the best in plaid shirts, v-neck sweaters, and coat trends for more stylish fall options.
Mad Men Yourself For Halloween: A Betty Draper Costume We’d Wear Year Round
Let’s be honest: A Betty Draper “costume” is just a good excuse for me to wear my dream outfit, which looks silly on most other occasions. The centerpiece should be a modest, full-skirted dress; this one is absolutely perfect, thanks to the belt, high neckline, and retro-looking jacquard. Bring an impractically tiny clutch and stuff it with cigarettes – you don’t handle the money or the car keys, so no need to accommodate them in your bag. Make sure the cigarettes are fake, though, because unlike Manhattan in the ‘60s, you can’t smoke anywhere anymore. Add delicate, pointy-toed heels, a blonde wig you can style like Betty’s, and a man in Brooks Brothers' exclusive Mad Men suit. For more options to fit into a Mad Men-themed costume, take a look at pleated skirts and comfortable high heels.
Even The Ladies Of Mad Men Are Into Sequins This Fall
Of course we love when the ladies and gents of Mad Men gather for some sort of gala - it guarantees plenty of 1960s era frocks for us to ooh and aah over (not to mention 1960s suits to get your man into). Betty looked ravishing in a strapless gown, but for a look that's more adaptable for those of us who don't regularly attend events at the Waldorf Astoria, we liked Trudy Campbell's fitted sequin combo dress. In the midst of this season's sequin craze, it's the perfect time to get Trudy's splashy look. We suggest this sophisticated top from Nanette Lepore paired with some vintage style in your lobes, like Carolee's pretty pearl clusters. Need some tips on how to sport sequins in non-disco queen way? We've got you covered, and don't forget to peruse our guides to the best in designer handbags, booties, and cheap jewelry for some useful extras.
Bring Don Draper Home With Brooks Brothers’ Exclusive Mad Men Suit
Brooks Brothers' exclusive, limited edition Mad Men suit went on sale today. The slim, 1960s style was created in conjunction with Janie Bryant, Mad Men's costume designer, and the gray sharkskin look is perfect for your guy. Even if he's not usually a sport about wearing a suit, we're pretty sure he'll have no argument if you tell him he looks like Don Draper. We're just getting into Halloween fever, and this is the ultimate reminder that something can both pass as a costume and be an incredible garment to wear every single other day of the year. But do hurry - the suit is only available until the show's season finale, on November 8th Don't want your man stealing the spotlight? Get Decked Out In A Mad-Men-Style, Husband-Stealing Frock
After half a season of anticipation, things finally heated up between Don and school teacher Suzanne on a juicy episode of Mad Men last night. We're almost as excited about all the drama as we are about the show moving into fall - which hopefully will mean some stylish jackets and scarves on Betty Draper and the ladies of Sterling Cooper. For now though, we like the pretty floral dress Suzanne wore during her late night rendezvous with Don. Fitted at the top and with a pleated a-line skirt, this design is flattering in any decade. For a similar look, try some playful fall florals with tights and leather boots or maybe this sexy, 60s-inspired dress by Rag & Bone. How about stocking up on some flattering pieces this season? You'll find everything you need in our guides for the best pleated skirts, black dresses, and cheap shapewear.
Betty Plays The Game Of Suburban Mom Vs. Vamp
We saw two equally stylish sides of Betty Draper last night on Mad Men; cute, conservative and ultra-endearing in Ossining, and all vamped up and sultry in Rome – and we can’t decide which version we like better. While we loved the effect of her towering hairdo (if only this was trendy, or remotely possible to do ourselves) and glitzy accessories in Italy, there’s something eternally charming about an a-line dress with a neatly tied, printed silk scarf. Since everyone should be able to go effortlessly from sweet to sexy, we suggest taking cues from Draper and picking up two essential items. Try a floral scarf in autumnal colors (it’ll go a long way) or treat yourself to a new little black dress, like this ABS design with lots of ruffles. Fabulous jewelry can make any outfit special, so browse our guides for the best in earrings, necklaces, and bracelets.
Betty Gets Down With Her Bad Self (Well Sort Of, Almost) In Florals
In an excellent episode of Mad Men (both style and plot-wise) Peggy was promiscuous once again, Don sealed the deal with hotel big wig, Conrad Hilton (and passed some bad judgment with some creepy 19-year-old hitchhikers), while Betty had an interesting meeting with Henry Francis, a man from the Governor’s office. It was very clear that Mr. Francis’ intentions were not just to help Betty save the Pleasantville Reservoir, and judging by the fitted frock she wore to their appointment, it looks as if Bets may have a cheating heart in her as well. We know it’s summer in Mad Men land, but a floral sheath with tights and some knee-high boots can do the trick for fall. If you’re feeling dainty, it may be tough to find a wearable pair of white lace gloves these days, but why not bring Draper’s look into the twenty-first century with a fingerless style in black? Find your ideal version of this fashionable Betty Draper ensemble; check out our guides for the best in sheath dresses, sunglasses, and gloves.
Mad Men Style: Joan’s Sexy Sheath Is In Need Of Some Serious Dry Cleaning
On last night’s Mad Men, for a moment we thought we’d have to say goodbye to Joan Holloway and her vampy style, but of course, the television gods swooped in to our rescue. Although Joan will not be leaving her post as Office Manager at Sterling Cooper - her doctor husband got the boot at his hospital, which caused some serious marital drama – she certainly looked fashionable at her fake farewell party that went terribly awry. You may have to be an actual redhead to wear Joan's particular shade of green, but we love a sheath with some embellishment at the neckline. Try this dress with a rosette at the collar in trendy plaid ($138) or do it yourself with an old sheath and a new brooch ($43). Accessories are a fun way to glam up a work outfit and still remain office-appropriate; so check out our guides for the best in figure-flattering jewelry, fall handbags, and hosiery to complete your look.
With Swing Jackets and Sheath Dresses, Mad Men’s Betty Makes A Stylish Homecoming
After enduring an episode-long stay in the hospital, complete with uber-theatrical screaming fits and just a little too wacky hallucinations, last night Mad Men’s Betty Draper finally had the fictional baby that’s been keeping her in maternity clothes all season. As great as Mrs. Draper has looked in various colorful mom-to-be frocks, we’re glad to see her back in more shapely, non-pregnant woman clothes. In her first appearance at a regular size, Betty returned home from the hospital with a new baby in tow, and wearing a fabulous pink dress and swing jacket, matched to a tee. Of course, we’re always in awe of Betty’s jacket collection – the woman has a fashionable jacket in every color of the rainbow, so that no dress will go unmatched – but hey, that’s why it’s TV. We were actually more interested in the girly garb Bets wore underneath. When it comes to hiding your tummy, post-pregnancy or not, a dress like this one, with its high waist and pleats at the neck, is just what the doctor ordered. Since light pink is a tad out of season right now, we’re going with this Shoshanna sheath ($310) – it has the same sweet pleating at the neckline and a way more daring pattern. Dressing up this fall? We have a frock for every occasion – browse our picks for the best sheaths, cocktail dresses, and ever important work dresses.
On Mad Men, Even An Uncomfortable Dinner Party Is An Occasion To Dress Up
Sterling Cooper's higher-ups celebrated Derby Days this week—Pete Campbell and his wife Trudy cleared the dance floor, trophy wife Jane made some serious party fouls, and Don and Betty (what else?) brooded and looked fabulous. But it was at a decidedly more quaint affair across town where we found our fashion moment. Joan played trick pony for her husband's doctor cronies at a buffet style dinner party she put together. Joan didn't look too happy to be put on display—accordion and all!—but she was wearing the right outfit for the spotlight: a form-fitting LBD bedecked with red roses. Tuleh makes an updated version ($1750) for those of you with a chief resident's budget. Or simply peruse our dresses, fall fashion, and discount guides to find options that are more budget-friendly but equally as chic.
This Week’s Mad Men Style: Peggy Steps Up, Tie Neck Blouse And All
If one thing is clear after last night’s episode of Mad Men, it’s that Peggy doesn’t get enough playtime. Some Peggy fans (and maybe die-hard West Wing fans, who just can’t let go) may feel that she often gets the shaft in favor of more glamorous Mad women. Indeed, Joan did look lovely in green last night and Betty Draper’s cowl neck floral dresses were to die for, but on this week’s show, Peggy’s clothes were the real scene-stealer. Her chic office look - tie neck blouse with high-waisted skirt - was popular in the 1960s and then recycled in the 80s by fashion-forward business women (think Melanie Griffith in Working Girl). Now, it’s back and many designers are creating modernized versions of this classic blouse. Try an updated design like this Tracy Reese blouse ($345, available for pre-order) that features a floral pattern apt for fall or this ultra-girly silk top from Banana Republic ($70). As Anticipated, Mad Men’s Premiere Presents A Story With Style
Much to our delight, Sunday night’s Mad Men third season premiere was just as sexy as we’d hoped – Betty Draper made quite a dramatic decision - and in true Mad Men form, her hubby Don promptly flew off to Baltimore…and picked up a young blonde flight attendant along the way. The show’s exciting first episode also didn't disappoint fashion-savvy viewers who tuned in for some style inspiration on a hot Sunday evening. We especially loved the dramatic block earrings that Sterling Cooper secretary Joan Holloway was sporting last night. For a similar look, try this pair of studs from M. Haskell ($15) - they’ve got some retro elegance, and make a statement without tugging on your lobes. For more Mad Men style, take a behind-the-scenes look at the show’s costume closet – designer Jamie Bryant talks about season three looks and how many of the vintage fabrics and dresses have been donated by Mad Men’s loyal fans. For dresses inspired by the show, take a look at some of our past Mad Men coverage, and for more pulled-together picks, we'd recommend perusing some of the best cardigans and pencil skirts.
