Don And Betty Make Season Three Of Mad Men Go Out With A Bang

Last night’s Mad Men season finale definitely left us wanting more. But it looks like we’ll have to wait at least a few months before finding out if Betty and Don are really headed for splitsville and what kind of shenanigans will go on at the new Sterling Cooper Draper Price (sheesh, that’s a mouthful).

With her perfectly coiffed do, impeccable makeup and stylish ensemble, Betty looked cozy and cute even while breaking the divorce news to her kids. We’ve long loved Draper in those comfy-looking plaid pants, but the addition of an embellished cardigan really pulls her outfit together.

For a similar look, we like Ann Taylor’s retro wool sweater with bow embellishments or Boden’s fun, bejeweled cardigan for an evening out. Not satisfied? We’ve got tons of trendy knits for you to choose from in our guides to the best in cardigans and v-neck sweaters.

The Ladies Of Mad Men Watch History Unfold In Style

The brilliant writers behind Mad Men did an excellent job of recounting the Kennedy assassination on last night’s rather melancholy episode. But of course, in true Mad-fashion, even a national crisis  couldn’t stop the ladies and gents of Sterling Cooper from partying in their finest attire. Always glamorous, Betty wore a jacket with a luxurious white fur collar to the chic wedding of Roger Sterling’s daughter.

For a modern take on Draper’s fancy look, try DKNY’s fur trimmed jacket in an of-the-moment plaid or Bebe’s cropped style for dressier occasions.

Even Betty Draper Cozies Up In Autumn Plaids

After last night’s episode of Mad Men, Don’s (multiple) secrets are definitely out, but for those of you who missed it, we’ll leave the revealing to your DVR. What we’re really interested in is the secret to the sleek ensemble Betty Draper wore during her big confrontation. If you don’t remember, because you were distracted by the smoldering look in Jon Hamm’s eyes, she had on perfectly cut plaid pants and a crisp, fitted turtleneck.

To capture the autumn mood like Betty, choose Elie Tahari’s plaid trousers for their feminine fit and trendy cropped cuff; on top, we suggest a merino wool sweater – this one comes in all colors of the J.Crew rainbow.

Mad Men Yourself For Halloween: A Betty Draper Costume We’d Wear Year Round

betty draper in mad men

Let’s be honest: A Betty Draper “costume” is just a good excuse for me to wear my dream outfit, which looks silly on most other occasions.

The centerpiece should be a modest, full-skirted dress; this one is absolutely perfect, thanks to the belt, high neckline, and retro-looking jacquard.

Bring an impractically tiny clutch and stuff it with cigarettes – you don’t handle the money or the car keys, so no need to accommodate them in your bag. Make sure the cigarettes are fake, though, because unlike Manhattan in the ‘60s, you can’t smoke anywhere anymore.

Add delicate, pointy-toed heels, a blonde wig you can style like Betty’s, and a man in Brooks Brothers’ exclusive Mad Men suit.

Even The Ladies Of Mad Men Are Into Sequins This Fall

Of course we love when the ladies and gents of Mad Men gather for some sort of gala – it guarantees plenty of 1960s era frocks for us to ooh and aah over (not to mention 1960s suits to get your man into). Betty looked ravishing in a strapless gown, but for a look that’s more adaptable for those of us who don’t regularly attend events at the Waldorf Astoria, we liked Trudy Campbell’s fitted sequin combo dress.

In the midst of this season’s sequin craze, it’s the perfect time to get Trudy’s splashy look. We suggest this sophisticated top from Nanette Lepore paired with some vintage style in your lobes, like Carolee’s pretty pearl clusters.

Bring Don Draper Home With Brooks Brothers’ Exclusive Mad Men Suit

Brooks Brothers Mad Men Suit

Brooks Brothers’ exclusive, limited edition Mad Men suit went on sale today.  The slim, 1960s style was created in conjunction with Janie Bryant, Mad Men’s costume designer, and the gray sharkskin look is perfect for your guy.  Even if he’s not usually a sport about wearing a suit, we’re pretty sure he’ll have no argument if you tell him he looks like Don Draper.

We’re just getting into Halloween fever, and this is the ultimate reminder that something can both pass as a costume and be an incredible garment to wear every single other day of the year.  But do hurry – the suit is only available until the show’s season finale, on November 8th

Don’t want your man stealing the spotlight?  Be sure to don a proper cocktail dress, hosiery, and a sexy bra in order to sidle up in style next to anyone sporting the Mad Men suit.

Get Decked Out In A Mad-Men-Style, Husband-Stealing Frock

After half a season of anticipation, things finally heated up between Don and school teacher Suzanne on a juicy episode of Mad Men last night. We’re almost as excited about all the drama as we are about the show moving into fall – which hopefully will mean some stylish jackets and scarves on Betty Draper and the ladies of Sterling Cooper.

For now though, we like the pretty floral dress Suzanne wore during her late night rendezvous with Don. Fitted at the top and with a pleated a-line skirt, this design is flattering in any decade. For a similar look, try some playful fall florals with tights and leather boots or maybe this sexy, 60s-inspired dress by Rag & Bone.

Betty Plays The Game Of Suburban Mom Vs. Vamp

We saw two equally stylish sides of Betty Draper last night on Mad Men; cute, conservative and ultra-endearing in Ossining, and all vamped up and sultry in Rome – and we can’t decide which version we like better. While we loved the effect of her towering hairdo (if only this was trendy, or remotely possible to do ourselves) and glitzy accessories in Italy, there’s something eternally charming about an a-line dress with a neatly tied, printed silk scarf.

Since everyone should be able to go effortlessly from sweet to sexy, we suggest taking cues from Draper and picking up two essential items. Try a floral scarf in autumnal colors (it’ll go a long way) or treat yourself to a new little black dress, like this ABS design with lots of ruffles.

Fabulous jewelry can make any outfit special, so browse our guides for the best in earrings, necklaces, and bracelets.

Betty Gets Down With Her Bad Self (Well Sort Of, Almost) In Florals

Bett Floral Dress

In an excellent episode of Mad Men (both style and plot-wise) Peggy was promiscuous once again, Don sealed the deal with hotel big wig, Conrad Hilton (and passed some bad judgment with some creepy 19-year-old hitchhikers), while Betty had an interesting meeting with Henry Francis, a man from the Governor’s office. It was very clear that Mr. Francis’ intentions were not just to help Betty save the Pleasantville Reservoir, and judging by the fitted frock she wore to their appointment, it looks as if Bets may have a cheating heart in her as well.

David MeisterFree People Lace Gloves

We know it’s summer in Mad Men land, but a floral sheath with tights and some knee-high boots can do the trick for fall. If you’re feeling dainty, it may be tough to find a wearable pair of white lace gloves these days, but why not bring Draper’s look into the twenty-first century with a fingerless style in black?

Mad Men Style: Joan’s Sexy Sheath Is In Need Of Some Serious Dry Cleaning

JOAN Madmen

On last night’s Mad Men, for a moment we thought we’d have to say goodbye to Joan Holloway and her vampy style, but of course, the television gods swooped in to our rescue. Although Joan will not be leaving her post as Office Manager at Sterling Cooper -  her doctor husband got the boot at his hospital, which caused some serious marital drama – she certainly looked fashionable at her fake farewell party that went terribly awry.

Plaid sheath flowerbow brooch

You may have to be an actual redhead to wear Joan’s particular shade of green, but we love a sheath with some embellishment at the neckline. Try this dress with a rosette at the collar in trendy plaid ($138) or do it yourself with an old sheath and a new brooch ($43).

Accessories are a fun way to glam up a work outfit and still remain office-appropriate; so check out our guides for the best in figure-flattering jewelry, fall handbags, and hosiery to complete your look.

With Swing Jackets and Sheath Dresses, Mad Men’s Betty Makes A Stylish Homecoming

betty-comes-home

After enduring an episode-long stay in the hospital, complete with uber-theatrical screaming fits and just a little too wacky hallucinations, last night Mad Men’s Betty Draper finally had the fictional baby that’s been keeping her in maternity clothes all season. As great as Mrs. Draper has looked in various colorful mom-to-be frocks, we’re glad to see her back in more shapely, non-pregnant woman clothes. In her first appearance at a regular size, Betty returned home from the hospital with a new baby in tow, and wearing a fabulous pink dress and swing jacket, matched to a tee.

betty-pink2Shosh Print

Of course, we’re always in awe of Betty’s jacket collection – the woman has a fashionable jacket in every color of the rainbow, so that no dress will go unmatched – but hey, that’s why it’s TV. We were actually more interested in the girly garb Bets wore underneath. When it comes to hiding your tummy, post-pregnancy or not, a dress like this one, with its high waist and pleats at the neck, is just what the doctor ordered. Since light pink is a tad out of season right now, we’re going with this Shoshanna sheath ($310) – it has the same sweet pleating at the neckline and a way more daring pattern.

On Mad Men, Even An Uncomfortable Dinner Party Is An Occasion To Dress Up

ep3-joan2RoseDress

Sterling Cooper’s higher-ups celebrated Derby Days this week—Pete Campbell and his wife Trudy cleared the dance floor, trophy wife Jane made some serious party fouls, and Don and Betty (what else?) brooded and looked fabulous. But it was at a decidedly more quaint affair across town where we found our fashion moment.

Joan played trick pony for her husband’s doctor cronies at a buffet style dinner party she put together. Joan didn’t look too happy to be put on display—accordion and all!—but she was wearing the right outfit for the spotlight: a form-fitting LBD bedecked with red roses. Tuleh makes an updated version ($1750) for those of you with a chief resident’s budget.

Or simply peruse our dresses, fall fashion, and discount guides to find options that are more budget-friendly but equally as chic.
