I’ve always been intrigued by the idea of colored mascara, but never wanted to commit to an entire tube of the stuff. After all, it’s not like I’ll wear blue mascara to work, right? But Physicans Formula Custom Eye Enhancing Mascara Duo ($10.95) is perfect for beauty commitment phobes like me. With black mascara on one end, and a colored mascara (green, purple, pink, and blue) on the other, you get to to mix up your beauty routine without spending a lot. The black mascara lengthened my lashes, and the blue color had an eye-popping effect without being jarring. Both ends have a jumbo brush that makes application easy, and the mascara didn’t wear off quickly. Free of parabens, fibers, oils, and fragrances, even contact lens wearers like me, can use it without those annoying flakes. I’m sold–and I might even wear some to work tomorrow.

Take A Sneak Peek At The Victoria’s Secret Show

Vogue UK reports on the Victoria’s Secret show, which was taped yesterday and airs December 1st (spoiler alert: Heidi had a baby month ago and she still looks incredible). The Cut also went behind the scenes during prep time. Highlights from that include a designer noting the show doesn’t have to make sense, it just has to be fabulous. Based on the outfit above, we guess we’ll take it.

Though massive amounts of white tulle with stems sticking up from it might fall outside our fashion purview, we still gleaned some perfectly sensible tips. Pink lips and black mascara ruled the beauty – all glam and just what you’d expect to be adorning the VS “angels.” To get the look, try Benefit Benetint Lip Balm, which stains your lips with a rosy hue while keeping them moisturized, so you’ll look luscious from the inside out. Anastasia’s Lash-Lifting Mascara, meanwhile, does an incredible job of playing up your lashes while keeping them looking quite soft.

Whip Lash: Three Mascaras to Try Now

I’m always hunting for that perfect mascara. Like everyone, I want something that makes my lashes look longer, thicker, and curlier without making them look like clumpy spider legs. Ick. To help you all on your personal search for perfection, here’s the down and dirty on three I’ve tried:

1. Maybelline Pulse Perfection in Blackest Black ($15). Buy this mascara! The thin formula goes on easily even when layering multiple coats, and the vibrating wand guarantees clumpless lashes. I’m in love.

2. Flirt! Lash-a-delic in Groovy Blue ($14). Obviously, we as a society want all of our visible white-ish surfaces to be as white as possible. Since no one’s invented eye-whitener yet, we’ll have to stick with blue mascara. This one is great because it’s blue enough to work, but not too blue.

3. CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Blasting in Brown ($7). This is a good mascara for casual everyday use. I’d actually recommend this to someone who was looking for subtle lash enhancement, but definitely not for the extreme “big lash” look advertised.

1. You’ll never lose Maybelline The Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara ($6) in your makeup case (check out that day-glo yellow) and the formula is pretty incredible, too. Its secret ingredient, collagen, makes your lashes feel soft and springy.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Emmy-nominated makeup artist Bruce Grayson yesterday – the one who ran the backstage goings-on at the Academy Awards (21 makeup artists! 19 hairdressers!) – and he let us in on how we mere mortals can get looks like the ones we saw on Sunday.

Bruce’s advice for getting red carpet glam at home is the same advice he gives the celebrities: it all starts with great skin. Getting your skin in shape weeks in advance is the key to looking as amazing as possible: facials, microdermabrasion, whatever it takes.

Bruce said he swears by Olay Definity Color Recaputre ($21) and Laura Mercier Secret Concealer ($22) to even skin tones and make skin look just flawless.

Bruce’s picks for best makeup on Oscar night? Jennifer Aniston’s look was one of his favorites, with the star going a little more glam than usual but still showing gorgeous, translucent skin and makeup. Other favorites included Kate Winslet’s pale beigy pink eye with a dramatic lip and Viola Davis’s gorgeous mauve-y purple lips.

“Oscars is about sheer simplicity," Bruce says. "It focuses on the eyes or the lips or the skin.”

As far as other makeup bag staples, he adores Cover Girl Lash Blast Mascara ($7.65) and Cargo Blu-Ray Blush/Highlighter ($27). When it comes to lips, Bruce is mad for the new lip gloss/lipstick combination products that go on easy and leave lasting color with shine – one of his favorites right now is MAC Tinted Lipglass ($14).

Whether or not you include the red carpet and HDTV lighting is entirely up to you.

Here’s another trick: keep all of your toiletries in a lingerie bag like the ones you use to wash your delicates. You can hang it in the shower and it drains dry. Just place the wet bag on a towel while you’re getting ready and throw it in your gym bag when you're ready to go. You’ll never have moldy gym things again!

It’s A New Year, Get A New Makeup Bag Already

Moisture, SPF 20, and skin-evening color in one simple step, Cosmedicine Honest Face Skin Tint and Treatment ($35) is one of the best tinted moisturizers I've tried. Serious bonus points for having a high SPF and still going on smooth and sheer.

For a touch of glam on the go, I stash everything away in a new Tory Burch Medium Cosmetics Case ($57). Looks amazing, and it's cheaper than a new purse!
