4. Tommy Hilfiger has big plans to expand his brand, adding about 100 more stores around the world, including in Central and South America. We guess it’s good to be able to buy American sportswear classics wherever you go. [WWD]

Fashion’s Night Out Will Indeed Return, But This Time On A Friday

So the style masterminds behind Fashion’s Night Out – some pictured above – have opted to move next year’s celebration to Friday, September 10th in an effort to maximize participation. We are all for this idea. While 2009’s Thursday evening fiesta was everything we’d hoped for, free drinks, small bites, and celebrity sightings are so much more fun when you don’t have to wake up for work in the morning.

In honor of this FNO announcement, how about treating yourself to an Anna Wintour-esque printed sheath? After all, she’s obviously the woman in charge (even Mike Bloomberg can’t wield her Vogue authority). We’ve got some good ideas:

Sarah Palin’s Wizard Of Style Comes Forward

Sarah Palin’s “elusive” stylist for the 2008 presidential campaign revealed herself to The New York Times, and no, it’s not Rachel Zoe.

Lisa Kline usually sticks to dressing high-powered female executives and news anchors, but now she’ll be best known for transforming Palin from a country girl into a national attention-grabber. With all the hoopla surrounding the former Alaska governor’s recently released “tell-all” book, it’s no surprise Kline felt the time was right to set the record straight regarding Palin’s rumored $150,000+ shopping spree. Apparently, Sarah didn’t do any of the shopping herself, but Kline did enough damage for the both of them.

Although I disagree with pretty much everything Palin says, it’s hard to disagree with some of what she’s worn. Colorful British brand Boden specializes in politico-worthy clothing (it’s even piqued Michelle Obama’s interest, a fact we can get on board with) and we like their ravishing ruffle jacket and retro-inspired sixties style.

Jil Sander Will Repeat Her Collaboration With Uniqlo

While the minimalist designer helms Uniqlo overall, she also created a special line, +J, for the store. Now it seems it’s done so well the Japanese retailer wants her to do another, Fashion Week Daily reports.

Our only trouble is that we can’t get the goods online. We’re rooting for that to change (ahem, Uniqlo) but in the meantime, we recommend copping the crisp style elsewhere (though perhaps not from the Jil Sander line, since it’s no longer designed by Jil herself). We prefer to directly channel Ms. Sander, with the perennially chic blazer and buttondown pairing.

3. The Guardian makes many a case for the highest of high heels, but most notably, “that this season’s fantastic shapes are an act of defiance against economic gloom.” We recommend you sort through the craziest options and stick with a good pair of party shoes. [Guardian]

4. Alicia Keys is launching a New York pop-shop on Monday featuring her forthcoming jewelry line, which will be more widely available in 2010. If you can’t get your hands on an item from the Barbers’ Daughters collection, peruse the best bracelets and earrings in the meantime. [WWD]

Rachel Zoe And Taylor Jacobson Finalize Their Divorce

If you had your fingers crossed for Taylor Jacobson’s dramatic return to The Rachel Zoe Project next season, we’re sorry to burst your bubble. The ex-assistant has taken a correspondent position on E! Entertainment. Jacobson confirmed her split from Rachel Zoe, Inc., saying that she and her former boss “are divorced” and that she “never” watches Bravo’s popular reality series about her job. As for the second part of that statement, all we have to say is, yeah right, Taylor.

Taylor sported a lot of striped styles, so we think she’d like this fun, twist belt dress from Mason by Michelle Mason. But our favorite chic-assistant outfit included a certain cowl-necked checked blouse – the one Taylor wore was actually red and white, but this design by Vince is even sleeker.

Zac Posen Will Soon Be Outfitting Us At A Reasonable Price

Zac Posen talked about his upcoming secondary line, which will be exclusive to Saks, with WWD today. The collection, Z Spoke, features crisp, pretty separates, and hits an opening price point of $78 (for the record, prices of Zac’s eponymous line begin at $900).

Zac’s theory is that while evening gowns and cocktail dresses may be expensive, sportswear should be built around a far lower price point. We couldn’t agree more.

The Z Spoke spring looks may be more appropriate for warmer weather, but I want to don a super wide belt (it’s almost like another layer of clothing) and striped sweater now – these items transcend seasonal trends.

3. Both Saks and Dillard’s reported third quarter profits. We wonder if basics, like inexpensive jeans, were driving the sales. [WWD]

4. An auction last night of artist-designed handbags for Louis Vuitton raised almost a million dollars for the Red Cross. Now that’s what we’re talking about when we say “designer handbag.” [Vogue UK]

Sophie Theallet Is The Newest CFDA Fashion Fund Winner (And A Michelle Obama Fave)

Brooklyn-based, French designer Sophie Theallet was awarded this year’s CFDA Fashion Fund grant of $200,000, Vogue reports. Theallet is already a favorite of Michelle Obama’s (that’s her shirtdress the ahead-of-the-curve First Lady donned last spring).

With the advent of this grant, one thing we’re rooting for is seeing Theallet’s clothing online (right now you’ll have to visit your local, physical outpost of Barney’s). In the meantime, cop the look with a pretty, feminine shirtdress, like this one from Ann Taylor. You can pair it with this Alexander Wang blazer – Wang was last year’s CFDA award recipient, and he’s since become practically ubiquitous.
