One of the best things about following NYFW is getting to see the gowns reappear on the Red Carpet on some of our favorite stars. Tonight’s Emmy Awards come directly on the heels of spring 2012 New York Fashion Week, which included an equal mix of bright hues and blush tones—so we’re expecting the Red Carpet to follow suite. With a collection of gold winged adidas kicks and Swatch watches, it’s no surprise that Jeremy Scott‘s RTW line is always high on kitsch. And his spring 2012 collection at NYFW this year came as no exception—models strutted down the runway in ass-less chaps, cow print, and pink pleather. But while his cowboy-slash-vacation-themed collection was rich in its bold statement pieces, there were plenty of little details that were even more zany. The jury’s out as to whether anyone in their right mind would wear them, but either way, they’re still pretty fun to gawk at. We saw it with Orbit Gum’s “sweet mint.” We saw it as a popular Prius color. We saw it in Chanel’s Jade nail polish. And now? Mint green has officially hit the catwalk with full force.

While we know the spring collections are always supremely colorful, this year’s lineup seems to be especially bright. Bold, fluorescent, and eye-catching colors have been present in Spring/Summer 2012 shows from Marc by Marc Jacobs to Carolina Herrera (pictured)—both in accent touches, as well as entire ensembles.

But this doesn’t mean that color blocking is gone for good. Pile bright accessories on top of standout dresses to keep the look fresh, or wear them alone—they’re enough of a statement in themselves. As Teen Vogue editor Eva Chen so aptly tweeted, “Things I’ve spotted a LOT of @ NYFW: @Equipment_FR shirts (good), neon Cambridge satchels (good), 100% sheer maxi skirts w leotards (bad).” And boy, was she correct—especially about the satchels.

Since I finally received my neon Cambridge Satchel Company bag last Friday (cue melodramatic saga after the jump), I’ve been wearing it to Fashion Week events and continuously getting snapped by street style photogs—but I am far from the only one getting the attention. Brad Goreski (pictured above) has officially made his neon Cambridge Satchel the “it” bag of NYFW, alongside plenty of other attendees, like the journalist I snapped a picture of at Rachel Roy, above.

When I first wrote about Cambridge Satchel Company’s neon bags a few months ago, I had already placed my order for my 11″ fluorescent yellow monogrammed bag as what was then considered to be an early birthday present to myself. But, considering I didn’t get it shipped to me until almost three months later, I’m starting to consider it more of an early Christmas present. Check it out below:

But the real question is why did it take so long to ship? According to WWD, it turns out that sales of the Cambridge Satchel Company bags in 2012 are expected to increase more than 350 percent from this past June—when I first wrote the post about them “being the next big thing.” Going from $3.5 million in sales to $16 million in roughly the amount of time I waited for my bag to arrive?! I guess I can’t blame them, they were too busy building a global satchel empire.

This year at New York Fashion Week, the “it” body con dress of the season is no longer the bandage dress, but rather the “illusion dress,” a form-fitting dress composed of color-blocked panels that emphasize a woman’s hourglass shape. And if Monique Lhuillier, whose S/S 2012 collection is pictured above, can make 90 pound models seem curvaceous, we’re officially on board.

But Lhuillier is not the only one to jump on the illusion bandwagon. Last week, The Daily Mail featured an article about “optical illusion dressing,” saying celebrities from Kate Winslet to Gwyneth Paltrow and designers from Stella McCartney to Alexander McQueen have all embraced the illusion trend. In fact, this universally flattering look has begun to pop up in so many places, it makes us question, is this the demise of man-repelling fashion?

Betsey Johnson (Monday at 6:00 p.m.) :”The Way It Is,” The Strokes

Always showing a collection inspired by rock and roll, Betsey Johnson’s Spring 2011 show would be perfectly complemented by this classic Strokes track.

Marc by Marc Jacobs (Monday at 8:00 p.m.): “Pharaohs,” SBTRKT

This synthy beat is accompanied by smooth vocals that epitomize the fun-loving Marc by Marc girl.

Vera Wang (Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.): “Paradise Circus feat. Hope Sandoval (Gui Boratto Remix),” Massive Attack

Although Vera usually opts for classical music at her shows, this haunting electronic remix would make for a beautiful pairing to her refined collection.

Oscar de la Renta (Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.): “Psychedelic Stereo,” Mimosa

This hypnotic electro song is upbeat enough to keep the show on tempo, but just understated enough not to take away from ODLR’s elaborately rich designs.

Jeremy Scott (Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.): “Motivation (Diplo Remix),” Kelly Rowland

Jeremy Scott’s clothing always includes references to pop culture—that’s why this Diplo remix of the Kelly Rowland and Lil’ Wayne track is just relevent enough to play alongside his fall show. Plus, I’m fairly certain Diplo rocks Jeremy Scott adidas kicks on the reg.

Anna Sui (Wednesday at 6:00p.m.): “Go Outside,” The Cults

This folky, happy song mimics Anna Sui’s bohemian-inspired clothing–and models who are notorious for smiling all the way down the catwalk.

Marc Jacobs (Thursday at 8:30 p.m.): “Sing,” Four Tet

Both classic and cool, this upbeat Four Tet song mimics the vibe of a Marc Jacobs fall collection.
