Runway style is always a little kooky, but it is also where next season’s must-haves are born. Collections for the fall 2010 season showed an interesting new trend in fur: the furry mitten. Luxe designers like Brian Reyes, along with affordable brands like Topshop all hid models’ hands in oven mitt style furry hand warmers. Almost like having animal paws, these furry Calypso mittens ($315) are serious attention grabbers. If you’re ready to dive head first into this trend come fall, these mittens are for you.

In constant need of a sturdy and fashionable umbrella, I was pleased to come across this Marc by Marc Jacobs Miss Marc Glow in the Dark Umbrella ($68)–they had me at “glow in the dark,” although I can’t imagine that it really does, or even what purpose that would serve. Nonetheless, the pretty print is enough to draw the eye in, as well as the fact that, well, it will keep you dry and stylish even in adverse weather. My question is, does the fashion math add up?

Considering that a blowout costs around $45 in New York City and it rains about 80 times a year, I think it’s safe to say that a designer umbrella is well worth the splurge; it will preserve your looks from the waist up and only cost 80 cents a use. If you live in Seattle, you’re getting an even better bargain.
