Winter Accessories Under $150: Fingerless Gloves, Infinity Scarves, And Faux Fur Galore

Today on Better.tv, we’re showing off our favorite winter accessories trends: fingerless gloves, infinity scarves, and the now-ubiquitous faux fur. (Hi Rachel Zoe!) Best of all: all the items you see here are under $150.

Also: Find even more faux fur, infinity scarves and fingerless gloves in our hand-picked shopping guides.

Faux Fur

Faux fur is showing up on everything from vests to hats to shoes this season. We love the luxurious look of this faux mink wrap ($40 – and from Target!) for pairing with holiday party dresses or even jeans and a tee – it’s more versatile than you’d think. This vest ($150) from Stefani Greenfield’s stellar HSN line is also a cold-weather workhorse.

If you’d prefer your faux fur in small doses, try a fluffy hat ($15), or these cool socks ($39) that can freshen up the look of your boots with the fur cuff that peeks out the top.

Infinity Scarves

This of-the-moment scarf shape makes getting that effortlessly chic loop totally simple – just throw it over your head. Echo’s chunky single-loop scarf ($45) is the simplest – it sits around your neck like a cowl-y collar. Wear Roxy’s Glow Infinity Scarf ($28) or Echo’s triangle pattern scarf ($35) the same way, or double-loop them for a cozier fit.

Fingerless Gloves

Since we’re all tied to our Smartphones these days, fingerless gloves make communicating on the go a breeze: fingers are free to type and text. Free People’s Doubs gloves ($28) have adorable metal buttons, and Mossimo for Target’s pair ($11) is extra long for extra warmth.

Top Five: Snoods (No, Not That Irritating Computer Game)

The snood, not to be confused with the ever-popular infinity scarf, is the latest in chic outwear. The best part of this British-inspired trend? You can pull your snood up over your head for extra warmth and a bit of a Babushka look. After all, who doesn’t love a Babushka in skinny jeans and over the knee boots? Check out our top five snoods for a stylish winter.

In a cool rendition of an argyle print, this wool-cashmere blend Burberry snood ($325) is all luxury.

For a casual knit that’ll keep your neck and head fashionably warm this winter, choose American Eagle’s circular scarf ($29.50) in white, gray or navy.

With a festive winter pattern and oversized shape, Aubin & Wills’ cashmere design ($195) is a cozy addition to your favorite coat.

Amelia’s Costume Designers Could Fly Away With An Oscar

amelia_scarfaquascutum_scarf

Amelia: Hilary Swank plays the aviatrix with a wanderlust and joie de vivre.  Her impeccable style was sensible and comfortable, yet refined. And Earheart’s signature pilot scarves were practically ubiquitous, serving as a counterpoint to her otherwise masculine sensibilities. This Aquascutum chiffon checked scarf fits the bill, and complements both a sweater or a cropped leather jacket.

amelia_bomberdoma leather bomber jacket

As she set new flying records, raised the bar for other female pilots, and captivated American society, she never forgot her Kansas roots. Amelia lived in a world of men, and mostly dressed the part. Trousers, collared shirts, and of course, the bomber jacket–every pilot’s essential. The Doma Leather Bomber Jacket is a contemporary version of the original.

amelia_hatNordstrom_featherhat

Earhart met with accolades wherever she went. She also had to make nearly constant public appearances to finance flights.  It’s hard to find a lot of 1930s-style hats that aren’t vintage, but this Feather Detail Cloche is a good choice. The nearly brimless style is feminine, and the felt-wool will keep your head warm during chilly receptions.

Overall: Movie: B-  /  Costuming: A

Since Amelia’s style is the clear winner, cop more of her look with the best leather jackets, hats, and celebrity scarves.

Entertaining All-In-One Winter Warmth From Peter Jensen

peter-jensen-1peter-jensen-2

Weird though it may be, we actually think this scarf and gloves combo by eccentric designer, Peter Jensen, is sort of genius. Think about it – it keeps your neck covered and your hands warm, and you’ll never lose a glove. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Jensen’s work, he’s known for his oddball creativity; his collections have featured imitations of Greenland’s traditional clothing, handbags shaped like huge watermelons, and most recently, perhaps in a nod to Mary Kate and Ashley’s fashion forward headgear, bunny ear sunglasses.

I think Jensen may have stolen that bag from my mom at the beach circa 1990, but if it puts you in the mood to prep for next summer now, we prefer fruit tones to actual fruit on our handbags. Try this slightly more elegant Tory Burch tote, and for somewhat more wearable statement headgear, take a look at Marc Jacobs’ giant “Runway” bow headband.

Infinity Scarves: So Much Easier Than That Fancy Parisian Knot

Though I’m fully obsessed with scarves, I’ve always been bad at making mine look just right.  Thankfully, this fall’s tie-free infinity scarves solve this very problem. From chunky knits to looser cottons, these pullover or loop-around scarves create the warm, layered looks I love without any skill involved whatsoever.

2. For a festive look, simply loop Echo’s Sparkle Infinity Ring Scarf ($48) around your neck a few times. This lightly metallic option is ideal for adding a little kick to simple skinny jeans or leggings-based outfit.

3. A little lighter and very fashion forward, this Bebe Jersey Chain infinity scarf ($49) is a perfect go-to for spring and fall.

How To: Wear A Summer Scarf Through Fall

We love the beginning of autumn, when it’s too cool to sweat and too warm to wear a jacket.  That’s why keeping the scarf you’ve been wearing on chillier summer nights is always a good idea.  You don’t really want to break out a sweater just yet.

Picture-21

Start with a lighter-colored cotton scarf in plaid – appropriate for fall yet not too wintery.  We like updating the scarf from summer to autumn with booties and slim dark denim, and then adding a white henley.  (A couple of the shirt’s top buttons can be unfastened, so the scarf can sit both on and inside the henley.)  Add a long-strap shoulder bag in a warm fall color, a metallic leather wrap bracelet, and pretty earrings that don’t dangle too much, and you’re good to go.

Tie Dye Is Not Going Away, But At Least We’ve Moved Away From Dad’s T-Shirts

Since I wasn't ever a huge fan of tie dye when it made its third return in the 90s, I was really skeptical when I noticed it coming back on celebs like Victoria Beckham (in Balmain jeans) and Fergie (doing herself, and the trend, no favors in an unflattering pair).

Victoria Beckham in Balmain Tye DyeFergie in Tie Dye

However, I'm relieved to see that some designers are using tie dye in more toned down and interesting ways, instead of resorting to bleach and rubber bands in the backyard.

sass & bide Tie Dye Jeans

If you're game to try the denim, this pair of black sass & bide Tye Dye Jeans ($74, was $150)
is a more subtle choice, and still retains the slimming qualities of a skinny fit and basic black.

Aqua Bias Stripe Tie Dye Scarf

This Aqua Bias Stripe Tie Dye Scarf ($48) is colorful and lightweight..and looks enough not like tie dye that it could last you beyond the trend.

Foley + Corinna Mid City Tote, Dyed

The fold-over design and gorgeous grey leather of this Foley + Corinna Mid City Tote ($444) make the dyed design surpisingly versatile.
