Start the new year off with a new outfit.

I’m absolutely not against wearing shorts in the winter, but let’s face it, a pair of tights paired with flimsy shorts-up-to-here doesn’tt really cut it in the snow. So here’s an idea if you’re going to be in a warm climate to ring in 2011–put those denim cut offs to use for a night out on the town. Get the look after the jump.

‘Tis the season of crappy days filled with sleet, hail, rain, snow and wind–lots of wind. Here’s some street style outfit inspiration I recommend you wear on a rainy day: a polka dot blouse, yellow (or other brightly colored skirt) a creme blazer (which tempers any craziness–seriously, if she didn’t have it on, she’d look like a bumble bee) and an armful of bangles. Add gray tights, a winter coat and rain boots to taste. You’re ready to take on the world in style.

Major bonus: wear it to work and you’re bright eyed and busy tailed for happy hour.

I love the idea of lace shorts, but haven’t gone near them for fear that I won’t be able to pull them off. Today’s my lucky day: not only did one stylish girl figure out a gorgeous way to wear lace shorts, but she layered it so that you can actually wear them in the winter. Throw a pair of fleece tights under them and a pair of booties and you’re ready to hit the town. It’s a great idea for festive attire only holiday parties in lieu of party dresses, too.

What could be more festive than this perfect lounge wear outfit for opening presents, making breakfast and snapping holiday pics? I’m definitely afraid of color most of the time–my entire closet is made up of creme, black, navy and white. So boring!
