Jodi Arnold for The Limited Starts Now

Jodi Arnold for The Limited, the store’s first collaboration, with New York fashion editor favorite designer Jodi Arnold, starts today with a few pieces available to start. While the selection looks underwhelming now, consider this: it’s better than the mad dash that ends up in everything being sold out in two minutes.  Order some of the stuff this morning, before everyone sees it–the tops and skirts are super cute. The entire collection will be available online and in stores starting 4.11.

This sequin explosion tank ($59.50) would be cute with the high waist shorts ($39.50).

The tribal print tank ($49.50) has more fun detail for spring than your regular cotton tank top, and this denim tiered skirt ($41.70, down from $69.50)  is unique, too.

Try this beading medley top with sequin embellishment ($59.50) and tie back necklace top ($49.50) make jeans instantly more dressed up.

See more from the Jodi Arnold for the Limited, including videos, and see what else you can expect starting soon. Check out the best online sample sales for today, plus our favorite sales and deals.

Bestsellers: Alexa Chung Waves Her Magic Fashion Wand To Make Clogs And Cut Offs Cool On Ebay

According to Vogue UK, everything Alexa Chung wears has been turning into retail gold on Ebay, rising up to 200% percent directly after she’s worn them. It’s a domino effect: she showed her fall 2010 collection for Madewell last month, and sent photos of her daily outfits to Vogue UK leading up to it.  Ebay has seen her favorites rise to the top: denim shorts (she owns 10 pairs),clogs and the Mulberry Alexa bag. We couldn’t resist but to choose our favorite looks from Alexa’s repertoire – guess a little bit of her magic rubbed off on us, too.

Alexa demonstrates how to wear denim shorts in winter and in spring–and apparently, readers agreed they needed a pair, too, as Ebay saw sales jump 277 per cent on the auction site after she wore them.

You don’t need Chung’s svelte stems to rock her favorite Denim Shorts look – just go with a longer length. If you want to get in on the trend, try these denim cutoffs by J.Crew at left ($79.50). If you’d rather go a little longer and more relaxed, check out Rich & Skinny’s Laid Back Shorts ($145) which offer a little room for a more relaxed feel so you don’t look like you’re trying too hard.

When Chung posed on the March cover of Vogue UK in Chanel’s SS2010 clog, the Dutch classic came back with a vengeance, rising 200% in sales on Ebay. The good news is that if you want to give it a whirl, this one by Charli-C from Jeffrey Campbell ($124.95) is actually pretty cool.

Alexa has reportedly contributed to a spike in Mulberry bags being bought by younger women. This one, which she carries everywhere, is named for her.

Check out this Topshop large Merino holdall ($210) which has the same feel, but without the $1039 price tag. Feeling bold? Channel Chung completely by splurging on the flashier clutch version of her ‘Alexa’ Mulberry bag ($695), which features a pink shiny leopard print, a large gold closure and two buckle straps.

Check out Ebay for more, or if you’re not ready for denim shorts, check out our guide to skinny jeans, and get yourself a blazer, which goes well with everything on this page.

Top 5: Get On Deck With Stylish Shorts (And Get Them Now)

Resort lines are already on deck for Spring 2010, which reminds me that it’s time to start thinking about the coming warm weather (even if it’s still months away). In the past I’ve been wary of shorts as fashion, but there are some very cute looks abounding that even those afraid of showing their legs can support. These top five shorts spin off the masculine trend we’re seeing now, and are a nice alternative to a dress.

diane von furstenberg cuffed shorts

1. These dressy and elegant Diane von Furstenberg Raimer cuffed satin shorts ($225) can be worn with high heels and a toned-down breezy tunic for an evening out, or with sleek metallic sandals for a dressy day option.

loft dot shorts

2. The ultimate in dolled-up beach wear, these structured dot print shorts ($39.50) by LOFT are comfortable, hip, and super-girly.

sonia by sonia rykiel shorts

3. Luxurious and classy, but feminine at the same time, you can wear these Sonia Rykiel silk shorts ($245) day or night with the right accessories; the bow detail adds a special touch.

joie shorts

4. These Joie Audrey shorts ($77.05) are grown-up and elegant: the button details make them look a little bit retro, and the poppy color is truly fashion forward. Tuck in a nautical striped tee and you’re good to go.

rosa cha tie die shorts

5. The color splashed print on these Rosa Cha Printed cotton shorts ($215) make them a true standout. Temper the bold print with all neutrals, like grey, white or taupe.

Start your spring shopping now with the best deals from across the Web, but first, be sure to see what spring fashion items you should have on your list.

Project Runway: Models’ Night Out

pr_ep4_models

In episode four, Project Runway contestants got right down to business. The challenge: It’s Models’ Night Out. Designers were on their own again, and had to design an outfit for their models to wear at an industry event that would allow them to stand out and make a statement.

pr_ep4_epperson

The hardest part for most designers was meshing their models’ tastes with their own design aesthetics. Epperson, coming off a bottom-two appearance from last week, faced a big challenge with his model, who wanted something elegant and punk, with an animal print (?!).  But Epp pulled off a dress that showed his sewing skills and eye for detail, impressing guest judges Marc Bouwer (sitting in for Kors) and celeb stylist Jennifer Rade. Marie Claire editor-in-chief Zoe Glassner, a chattier, more approachable version of Nina Garcia, was also loving the zebra-inspired mini.

pr_ep4_logan

However, Logan didn’t fare as well. His model had an equally challenging request for 50s and lace–a little rock and roll look with an evening aesthetic. The result was confusing, as was the styling, which Heidi described as “prom-inspired.” Still, his risk taking saved him, whereas Qristyl’s “safe” black dress sunk her. Heidi said the dress aged her model, and models age in dog years in this industry. Ouch!

pr_ep4_althea

There were a couple favorites on the panel – including Carol Hannah’s asymmetrical tank dress with applique skirt – but Althea’s three-piece-suit-inspired evening look wowed everyone. Jennifer wanted to take the outfit after the show for one of her clients.

theory_blazerbananarepublic_tankaliceolivia_shortshorts

One thing that judges liked about Althea’s design was that the separates can be worn together, or mixed into the wardrobe. The stretch wool Ediona Blazer ($385) from Theory can literally go from work to dinner over Banana Republic’s fitted Pima cotton tank ($20), which in dark gray is the color essential of the season. And although the weather’s turning chillier, the black  stretch silk Butterfly Short Shorts ($187) by Alice + Olivia will be cute into the fall, and even next spring.

If you need to play Project Runway catch-up, be sure to check out our past show coverage.  And for more Althea-esque separates, see our guides to blazers and evening tops for jeans.

Who Wears Short Shorts? The First Lady Does, And She Looks Good In Them

Michelle Obama bared all of her long legs this weekend during the Obama family vacation to the Grand Canyon. She wore (gasp!) short shorts in a city where the average temperature in August is close to 100 degrees. The poor lady was just trying to avoid heat exhaustion, which would have looked much more un-First Lady-like caught on camera if you ask me. Nonetheless, Mrs. O is taking heat for her unprecedented choice of pants – or lack thereof.
Michelle Obama in Shorts

Indeed, her outfit (thigh-high shorts and an unbuttoned blouse over a white cami) was a tad more laid back than the fitted sheath dresses and demure floral skirts we’ve been accustomed to seeing her in this summer, but come on guys, it’s hot down there!

It seems that in terms of fashion, Michelle is boldly going where no First Lady has gone before. Compare her to previous Presidential wives and criticize all you like, but seriously, would you have wanted to see Barbara Bush or Nancy Reagan in short shorts?

Shock political pundits just like Michelle in this pair from J. Crew ($49.50). And if you want more MOBama fashion, check out our buying guides for Michelle Obama style, cardigans, and summer dresses.

Leather Shorts: Fancier Than Denim, And A Little More Rockstar

This might be one of the sharper edges of fashion that we bring you, but we promise, leather shorts are less impractical than they may seem.  Paired with demure shoes and a floral blouse, the look, while quite trendy, is stylish, and an appropriate transition into cooler weather.

As is too often the case with particular items at the forefront of trend wave, the leather shorts out there can be impressive-looking yet rather pricey:

robert-rodriguez-leather-shorts

These Robert Rodriguez bermudas ($473) will keep your legs covered for about half the price (surprisingly enough) of some other designer options.

forever-21-faux-leather-short1

However, if those aren’t calling out to you, knockoff fave Forever 21 is already on top of things with a faux leather pair of shorts that retails for $23.

ann-taylor-loft-dark-denim-shorts

If you’d rather wait for this trend to draw a little farther back from the edge before testing it out, we’d recommend easing into the look with a solid pair of dark denim shorts. These from Ann Taylor LOFT ($25 from $39.50) will also look lovely with the aforementioned floral blouse.

For more rising trends, check out workboots that are masquerading as real boots, and for advice on pulling off trendier items, peruse our guides on wearing harem pants and jumpsuits.

What To Wear To: The Company Picnic You Are Totally Looking Forward To

Ah, the company picnic. An obligatory event that eats up your Saturday and forces you to see quirky (creepy) co-workers outside their normal habitat most likely donning inappropriate or outright dorky attire. But since you have to go, arrive looking casual, conservative, and of course, stylish.
companypicnicensemble

A pair of solid bermudas are a safe option as your boss may force you to participate in a wiffle ball game or a three-legged race, and that sundress you considered would prove too risky. Wear with a lightweight, loose-fitting blouse that you can tuck in. Add a belt to look more pulled together, and slip on some colorful wedges instead of too-casual flip-flops.

Store your camera (joking – as if you’d want to remember the day) in a structured, classy straw tote and don’t forget your shades to hide those rolling eyes. Have fun!
