As we impatiently await the release of The September Issue, the upcoming documentary about the trials and tribulations of creating Vogue’s fall fashion bible, we invite you join us for a brief look-back at some of the outfits that style icon, and resident Condé Nast despot, Anna Wintour has donned over the past year. Finally, a break from the standard summer chick flick. Julie & Julia opened this weekend, and it was great to see a non-ridiculous movie with good acting and some serious old school style.

I’m not even going to talk about the “Julie” parts of the movie with Amy Adams because her character was irritating and her clothes were uniformly frumpy. Meryl Streep’s “Julia,” aka Julia Child, is a different story. Meryl-as-Julia was the embodiment of everyday elegance, as seen in two trends that we can still wear today.

1. Pearls were Julia Child’s signature necklace, and they can be yours too. Cop her style directly with a simple, single strand ($98), or give the look a modern twist ($48).

2. High waisted skirts with skinny belts were a wardrobe go-to for this flick. Ann Taylor Loft obviously got the memo, but their pencil skirt/belt combo is a little too monochromatic. Spice it  up with a different colored belt instead.

After the bickering and lawsuits that plagued the Project Runway brand for the last year, it was easy to forget that last season’s winner, Leanne Marshall, was working her tail off to design a line for Bluefly.

Well, she has. And it’s finally available on the site today.

The collection incorporates Leanne’s soft, flowing aesthetic and, of course, her signature petals. The tank tops and tunics are pretty, in shades of cornflower blue, pink, white, and coral, but at the price point, I wouldn’t buy more than one.

However, the Jasmine Cropped Jacket ($220) and Lana Mini Skirt ($168) are more standout pieces and show more of the petal flair.

The priciest piece in the collection is the strapless blue Elenna gown ($990) that tucks and flows in silk and organza. It’s a beautiful piece of craftsmanship that doesn’t need to be dressed up with over-the-top accessories.

Telling a girl she has cankles – the decidedly unattractive calf / ankle hybrid – is one of the worst things you can do. Cankles have definitely ended friendships, and maybe even presidential bids. Despite claims to the contrary by gyms, cankles cannot be removed by simple spot reduction exercises.

Now even the Wall Street Journal has noted it as a serious issue.  Ladies – you may need to look down and see if you’re in need of some help.

If you’re worried about cankles (or just want your legs to look as long and sexy as possible) your wardrobe is your best friend with just a few careful choices.

1. First option – just cover your ankles. A maxi skirt that falls just above your feet. This provides the perfect coverage without having to resort to heavy pants.

2. Wear skinnifying shoes, like high-heeled pumps in a neutral color. High heels make legs look longer, and ones that are close in color to your skin tone will elongate legs even more.

3. Pick your pants wisely and avoid calf-length capris.  There is no better way to make your ankles blur into your calves than by covering any definition your calves may have. Instead, leave the knee visible with bermuda shorts, like this sleek black pair.

It might be sweltering, but you still need to look appropriate for work.  Luckily, Banana Republic has stepped up to the plate with a number of light, swingy, knee-length skirts.

A wide waistband sitting atop all-round pleats is always flattering, and the print on this skirt ($25 from $69) is neutral but still fun.
