I recently lost a little weight, and—wouldn’t ya know it?—it was mostly from my boobs. Rather than dropping an entire paycheck on a new bra wardrobe, I decided to test a few inexpensive modifiers.

1. Bralief (3 for $23)

I have been using my Bralief for a while now, and it’s absolutely fantastic. It’s easy to snap on, it’s adjustable and it stays put. Plus, it gives just enough extra lift that I feel perky but not like I’m wearing the world’s most padded push-up.

2. Strap Perfect (6 for $10)

Stap Perfect’s little plastic holder (it looks kind of like those ’80s T-shirt ties) was really, really hard to put on—as soon as I got one strap looped over the hook, the other would pop out. But once I finally got it hooked, it did its job. Strap Perfect is better than Bralief for hiding straps under tanks, but the promised “extra cup size” provided just a tad too much va-va-va-voom for everyday wear.

3. LG Accessories Bra Extender (3 for $4)

Now that I’m sporting a smaller bra size, I’ve dusted off some of the too-small bras I paid a fortune for and then stashed away. To bridge the gap between too small and just right, I bought some LG Accessories bra extenders. The two-, three- or four-hook extenders are simple to snap into place and give that extra wiggle room I’ll need as my bra size changes.

Telling a girl she has cankles – the decidedly unattractive calf / ankle hybrid – is one of the worst things you can do. Cankles have definitely ended friendships, and maybe even presidential bids. Despite claims to the contrary by gyms, cankles cannot be removed by simple spot reduction exercises.

1. First option – just cover your ankles. A maxi skirt that falls just above your feet. This provides the perfect coverage without having to resort to heavy pants.

2. Wear skinnifying shoes, like high-heeled pumps in a neutral color. High heels make legs look longer, and ones that are close in color to your skin tone will elongate legs even more.

3. Pick your pants wisely and avoid calf-length capris.  There is no better way to make your ankles blur into your calves than by covering any definition your calves may have. Instead, leave the knee visible with bermuda shorts, like this sleek black pair.

Blue nails are back (again) for summer, but this go-round there are more shades than ever before. Never felt the urge to stray from standard red or pink? This summer’s seaside resort-inspired palette, along with our tips for doing blue right, might have you changing your tune.


Tip 1: Keep things short and sweet.

Why: Whenever the weather gets nice, I'd rather get my exercise outside than be stuck at the gym. Outdoor exercise is all fine and dandy for my arms and legs, but without someone telling me exactly how to sculpt my abs, I tend to get a little soft around the middle. That's where the Skinny Tank comes in. I can skip a grueling ab workout or two and still show my stuff off outdoors.

The Skinny Tank has a firm but well-disguised band of support right in the middle, where I need a little cinching the most. It resembles the Yummie Tummie in form and function, but comes with a more bargain-friendly pricetag, so you can buy more than one color. I layer the tanks under lower-cut shirts and cropped blazers and get a killer (if faux) hourglass figure, and I wear them on their own when I'm running around on the weekends.

A few years back, leaving our delicate bikini lines to anyone but the most highly skilled professionals was out of the question. Now, in these anything-to-save-a-dollar days, it's razors up. We're even going DIY down there. Luckily, there are some handy tools to help us through our at-home endeavors. We took two for a test drive.

Contender 1: Bliss Spa's Bikini Perfect Deluxe Spa Edition Razor Set ($50)

Bliss' Philips-branded set sure does have all the bells and whistles—which is a pro and a con. There are six interchangeable razor heads, so every shaping and shaving need, from bikini line to brows, is taken care of. But we can't help but feel that the kit could be a few dollars cheaper if it didn't include unnecessary extras like trial-sized tubes of body butter and scrub.

Contender 2: Schick Quattro Trim Style Razor ($13)

Once the razor industry realized that adding a sixth, seventh, or eighth blade would be ludicrous, brands like Schick started throwing in other enticing extras, like a battery-powered bikini line trimmer. The trimmer end isn't going to help anyone get the Brazilian look, but it does its job in the shaping department, with the help of three different guard settings.

The Verdict: If we're only considering bikini line benefits, it's Bliss by a hair. There's just nothing that little rechargeable gizmo can't do. But if we throw value and overall performance into the mix, it's hard to beat a tool like Schick that can take care of your legs and your bikini line for a quarter of the price.

Episode 5 of The Fashion Show opened with some mini-challenge trickery where designers had to create a sketch from memory. After staring at one of Isaac's Fall 2009 pieces hanging on a dress form, Kelly walked in and out of the room before the challenge began. Only, the challenge was Kelly (so tricky, Bravo!). The group had to sketch what Kelly wore.

After complaining that she barely saw anything, Daniella won the challenge and the chance to choose one designer that would be in the bottom three. Merlin was shaking in his red mini boots.

The elimination challenge gave every designer a real woman (aka, not a size zero model) and the task of creating an outfit that would highlight her assets while improving on her perceived problem areas. This really hit home when we saw the designers padding their dress forms with hips, butts, bellies, and breasts.

James-Paul was beside himself at having to design for someone with body fat. His actual quote was, “It's like asking Jesus Christ to work with Satan.” A bit dramatic, but he wasn't alone in his dismay.

Daniella burst into tears at how stuck she was in her design. When she complained that she had never designed for big women (her real model was a size 14), Isaac called her sizeist. Ouch! Still, she managed to put out a flattering navy and black jacket/dress combo that got raves from the fashion show audience (buy it here, $325).

And the bottom three pick? Angel. Bad tailoring got her there, but Keith's boring prom dress design was much worse than a messy hem and caused him to be sent home.

Daniella's outfit worked because of the belt. (And, she's not alone. Five other designers used belts or waist contrast to create a silhouette.) This Ann Taylor Cotton Twill Tuck Dress ($60, was $130) uses tucks at the waist and a big elastic belt to draw attention to the smallest part of the waist.

With a Wellalarm, you can basically wear all of your medical and emergency contact information on your wrist (or around your neck). The jewelry (this bracelet is $150) has a telephone number and URL etched in, where you store emergency info in case you’re injured while you’re out running alone.
