The Sheerer, The Better When It Comes To LBD’s These Days
The combination of sheer and black fabrics have set off a major trend in the LBD realm, which we've seen on Stephanie Pratt, Mila Kunis, Demi Lovato, and Megan Fox. It's a stylishly sly way of showing some skin without worrying about looking a bit off-putting, or in simpler terms, trashy. Placement of these sheer panels is key for designers, as they can flatter, accentuate, or create illusions depending on where they lie on the body. We decided to focus on the popular chest area, where if we were to remove this see-through material, then every girl in the photo above would look like they were pulling a J.Lo's Versace dress circa 2000 Grammy Awards (remember?!). So as a modest solution, these simple sheer details are everywhere when it comes to red carpet appearances and to be honest, we think the look is quite chic! Stephanie Pratt’s Grungy Mallrats Look (Kurt Cobain Would Be Proud)
Stephanie Pratt might not have a track record for making great decisions (she is a Pratt afterall) - but this stoner, just-rolled-out-of-bed look is pretty rough. Wearing menswear inspired trends, like the military jacket is great and we'd normally approve, but she loses us by pairing it with a shredded sweater, ripped jeans, and Chucks. Let's break it down: What she did wrong: Ripped clothing had its moment this year, but please, people don't wear ripped jeans AND a ripped sweater. Instead of going with the head to toe grunge look - why not pair a military coat with sleek flat boots? Don't forget Jenna Lyon's rule that opposites attract. What she should have done: The one menswear-inspired piece I would keep is the military jacket because it is so on-trend. This cropped Trouvé Canvas Military Jacket ($98) is a feminine style you can wear with skinny jeans or even flirty dresses. A basic, fitted tee is the answer to every wardrobe dilemma. Pair this sexy but comfy Splendid 1x1 Scoop Tee ($46) with jeans, trousers, or under cropped jackets. It works with everything. Instead of the shredded baggy jeans, Stephanie should have gone with a dark, skinny pair like these James Jeans Twiggy 5 Pocket Legging Jeans ($150). The dark wash is super slimming and goes with everything. In lieu of the Chucks, Stephanie should have juxtaposed her borrowed-from-the-boys jacket with a sleek, feminine boot like these Corso Como Rhonda boots ($198). The camel color is neutral and subtle - yet still very chic. For more fall shopping tips, check our guides to the best flat boots, jeggings, cardigans and blazers.
Katy Perry And Christina Aguilera Bring The MTV Awards Red Carpet Fashion To a New Low
Sometime in the last decade the MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet has become a trashy, fashion free-for-all (I blame Lil' Kim and her sequined pasties.) Now, it's the one red carpet day a year when entertainers fire their stylists and wear the cheesiest, skimpiest, sleaziest mini dresses money can by. Add a blue wig and you get this year's fashion. Katy Perry's took her normally wacky wardrobe to a new level with a bright blue wig and a basically see-through mini-dress (save for some conveniently placed beading). Christina Aguilera's approach was more Old West hooker meets Can-Can dancer - which is just as bad as it sound. In the category of "girls who forgot the bottom half of their outfit"... Julianne Hough (who?), Stephanie Pratt, Whitney Port and Kristen Stewart all chose to go miniscule. It doesn't help that three out of four look like they had a peroxide and self tanner accident.
