Olsens To Come Out From Behind Their Sunglasses To Make Them For You

mary kate sunglassesashley olsen sunglasses

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are expanding their line The Row to include, initially, four sunglasses styles.  This makes sense, since the famous twins are well-known for slipping around New York and Los Angeles, hidden behind various giant eyewear styles.

Their own line will include a classic aviator look and an oversized 60s pair.  Since those styles always look good, we figured we’d get our hands on them now, with traditional Ray-Ban aviators and these big Abelie Cat sunglasses from Chloe.

Get more Olsen style with the best sunglasses, which we’d don with booties and a black dress.

Choose The Right Shades So People Don’t Refer To You As Bug Eyes Behind Your Back

You do your body shape research before slipping into a new summer swimsuit, but do you consider your face shape before investing in some new sun-blocking shades? The right pair of sunglasses can draw major attention to your assets while lending balance to more extreme features.

Check out our suggestions below:

image

If your face is square: Rounded frames will add some softness to your angular features. Tom Ford’s Valesca shades ($280) have additional detail at the brow, drawing eyes upward and balancing out a strong jawline.
image

If your face is round: Choose wide rectangular or square frames to downplay fullness and make your face appear thinner. Oliver Peoples’ Apollonia shades ($325) create the illusion of angles.
image

If your face is heart-shaped: Gals with wider foreheads do best with shades with thin frames, like Dana Buchman Aviators from Kohl’s ($16).
image

If your face is oblong: Long and lean faces can handle oversized frames—think big and bold. Try drawing attention upward by picking glasses with eye-catching stems, like Kate Spade’s Priscilla Print shades ($148).

Be sure to shop our Celeb Sunglasses Guide for styles the stars can’t get enough of this summer.

Embrace the Sun in Style by Choosing the Right Shades for Your Shape

You do your body shape research before slipping into a new summer swimsuit, but do you consider your face shape before investing in some new sun-blocking shades? The right pair of sunglasses can draw major attention to your assets while lending balance to more extreme features. So before you plunk down cash for that pair of oversized retro granny glasses, make sure you're making the right choice for your look. Consult our guide to glasses for your face shape (complete with high-end and budget friendly suggestions) and you'll be made in the shade.

image image

If your face is square: When in doubt, stick with shades that are the opposite of your face shape. Rounded frames will add some softness to your angular features. Tom Ford's Valesca shades ($167) have additional detail at the brow, drawing eyes upward and balancing out a strong jawline. And Bleu Dame's Ring Temple glasses ($13) lend curves to a boxier face.

image image

If your face is round: Here's another study in opposites. Choose wide rectangular or square frames to downplay fullness and make your face appear thinner. Oliver Peoples' Apollonia shades ($325) create the illusion of angles, while Mossimo's Black Vector sunglasses ($16) with purple ombré lenses are narrow and distract from fuller cheeks.

image image

If your face is heart-shaped: Gals with wider foreheads do best with shades with thin frames, like Cutler and Gross' mirrored aviators ($415). If playing down a pointy chin is your goal, pick something with a straight-across top, like Forever 21's spin on Wayfarers ($6).

image image

If your face is oblong:
Long and lean faces can handle oversized frames—think big and pick a pair that extends all the way down to the center of the face. Try drawing attention upward by picking glasses with eye-catching stems, like Kate Spade's Priscilla Print shades ($148), or pick funky patterned frames, like Anthropologie's Bitty Bloom glasses ($24) to downplay your long cheeks and jaw line.

Our Spring Splurges: They’re Not For Us, They’re For The Economy

This week, we rounded up the pricier goods that our writers have budgeted for in their spring funds. Nothing ends a recession like increased spending, people.

image

SheFindsArden plans to invest in this Kenneth Jay Lane necklace, because it goes with everything, especially for a turquoise-phile.

image

SheFindsJenn wants to get this pricey pair of Tom Ford sunglasses to replace her battered Versace pair. What else do you wear every single day for the entire season?

 image

SheFindsSuzelle is buying a roomy, neutral-colored MICHAEL Michael Kors shoulder bag – a staple you depend on so heavily (imagine not having a bag…) should be well-constructed and attractive.

If you think you can keep it clean, be like SheFindsBrynT and buy a white linen blazer to replace your black standby when the weather begs for something lighter and brighter.

My Spring Stimulus Buy: Tom Ford Andrea Sunglasses

image

What: Tom Ford Andrea Sunglasses, $325

Why:  I have been wanting a pair of Tom Ford glasses for a couple of years and thankfully he now has an entire range of very cute shapes–including this pair of caramel-colored oversized aviators. They're not as literal as traditional aviators, and are just big enough to balance out my longer oval face. And since my old pair of Versaces have become pretty scratched and sad, I don't feel bad investing in these new shades.

They also come in black, but I like my glasses to complement my hair and skin, not to mention the tan I hope to get when the sun finally makes its appearance.

Top Five: Wearable Neon – Yes, Wearable Neon

We’re sure we don’t have to tell you this twice, but a little neon goes a long way. To pull off this trend, we’d focus on accessories and pair them with neutrals – happy little pops of color are way more palatable than a Day-Glo muumuu, or something bizarre like that.

image

1. These plastic sunglasses ($15.50) cost exactly what a fun, trendy pair should cost.

image

2. A bright patent hobo ($295) is work-appropriate thanks to the classic shape.

image

3. The iconic Jimmy Choo strappy sandal ($535), in fun neon patent leather.

image

4. Wear these lacquered bracelets ($5) all together with a shift dress, or mix one or two with chunky wood bangles for more texture.

image

5. A comfortable everyday sandal ($59) looks punched-up in glowing yellow.

Classic Spring Wardrobe Additions From Ralph Lauren, $100 And Under

Since the recession became the most popular newsmaker around here, we’ve been hearing a lot of “Save on trends! Spend on classics!” which is true, to some extent, but we’re getting tired of saying it. Here’s today’s version: Save on classics. Well-made, Ralph Lauren classics. Ha! We win!

image

Ralph Lauren’s iconic skinny polo ($50, was $75) has that magical mesh weave that’s more forgiving than plain old jersey. And it comes in just about every color human eyes can differentiate.

image

These square sunglasses ($89) are big but not too big, and don’t scream “BRAND” on the side.

image

A pastel linen shirt ($60, was $85) can be worn crisp and tucked in at work, and casually undone for beachside cocktails (maybe both in the same day, when we move to Key West).

What SheFindsBecky Wants For Christmas

Along with chic new accessories, I'm really hoping to score some at-home beauty assistance this Christmas. Check out my top three picks for what I hope to find under the tree.

image

iWood's Organic Macassar Ebony Sunglasses ($221.90) have been on my mind ever since I saw them at the Saks holiday gift preview. They're made from sustainable exotic wood, and are laminated and hand-finished for durability. They also have 100% UV protection.

image

I've been wanting a big leather tote for a while, and it's the horseshoe buckle on the Ananas Samantha Tote ($530) that clinched the deal. Who doesn't need a lucky handbag?

image

Perhaps not one to open at a large family gathering, I still really want Bliss's Bikini Perfect Deluxe ($60). Waxing is beyond my pain threshold, and there are some places scissors should just never go.

Halloween Costumes: Shut It Down With Rachel Zoe’s Haute Hippie

image

Having covered The Rachel Zoe Project for an entire season, I figure what better time to dress up as my favorite rabid, super-shopping uber-stylist than Halloween? It’s now or never to try this look on for size – or to basically throw on all my accessories at once.

imageimage

If you care to join me, I would suggest starting with copious amounts of black eyeliner and mascara. Snag this Wet and Wild Kohl Eyeliner in Charcoal 655 ($1.50) and rim your eyes a couple of times, then follow with two coats of Maybelline Great Lash Mascara in Very Black ($4.30).

Throw on a pair of oversized sunglasses like these Python Retro Sunglasses ($6) and you’ve got the foundation for the look.

There are a few more things to get this haute hippie look: a faux fur vest, tons of statement accessories, and a huge oversized tote. This AE Furry Vest ($50) will definitely do the trick for little money. As for the bag, I think this Quilted Saints Tote ($44) will do just fine.

Accessorize with this Sterling Silver Marcasite Ring ($20) and Faceted Stone Bracelet ($9.50). Throw on some black jeans and a tank top and get ready to shut it down.
