Ditch The Heavy Wool For These Top Five Spring Scarves

The weather is starting to break, and although you can store away the hats and gloves, a lightweight scarf is the perfect accessory to wear into spring. I love scarves because they’re practical for transitional weather, when you want to ditch the tights and boots and put on a pair of flats and jeans.

Nicole Richie’s white t-shirt and tattered jeans would be pretty boring if she didn’t have a red scarf to spruce up the look, and Jessica Biel’s knotted silk scarf ups the style quotient on her leather jacket and maxi dress. And if you just want to add color or pattern to an outfit, you can wear your scarf a la Katie Holmes. Here are our five favorite scarves that you can wear now and into spring.

1. The infinity scarf was a big hit this past winter, and this Limited Polka Dot Infinity Scarf ($29.50) is a lightweight option that will work for the office or the weekend.

2. Vibrant colors are in for spring, and this J.Crew Refined silk cashmere scarf ($60) will easily incorporate the trend into your wardrobe.

3. The print on this Collection XIIX ‘Floral Day’ Scarf ($38) might be intimidating to wear on a dress or blouse, but this scarf works for all style types.

4. This Love Quotes Pastel Italian Linen Scarf ($90) is a celebrity favorite–Nicole Richie is wearing it in the pic above–and the large size means it can second as a shawl.

5. I love the purple fringe and print on this Madewell Mosaic Square Scarf with Fringe ($52). A square shaped scarf is great for beach vacays when you want to cover your humid stricken hair.

In the past I’ve been wary of shorts as fashion, but there are some very cute looks abounding that even those afraid of showing their legs can support. These top five shorts spin off the masculine trend we’re seeing now, and are a nice alternative to a dress.

diane von furstenberg cuffed shorts

loft dot shorts

2. The ultimate in dolled-up beach wear, these structured dot print shorts ($39.50) by LOFT are comfortable, hip, and super-girly.

sonia by sonia rykiel shorts

3. Luxurious and classy, but feminine at the same time, you can wear these Sonia Rykiel silk shorts ($245) day or night with the right accessories; the bow detail adds a special touch.

joie shorts

4. These Joie Audrey shorts ($77.05) are grown-up and elegant: the button details make them look a little bit retro, and the poppy color is truly fashion forward. Tuck in a nautical striped tee and you’re good to go.

rosa cha tie die shorts

5. The color splashed print on these Rosa Cha Printed cotton shorts ($215) make them a true standout. Temper the bold print with all neutrals, like grey, white or taupe.

Top 5: Gifts for Jewelry Lovers

Coco Chanel was fond of saying, “Before you leave the house, take one thing off.” There are, however, women out there who love their jewelry so much, they dare disregard her sage advice. Know one of them? Gift them with one of these stunning statement pieces this holiday season that are sure to set them straight-for at least a day, that is.

banana republic applique cuff

Cuff bracelets are usually tough, but this cuff has a gorgeous applique detail that makes it quite delicate and elegant.

j crew crystal supernova necklace

There’s a reason J. Crew named this necklace “supernova.” The sparkle factor is really out of this world.

kara ross knot snake ring

Tempted by the snake jewelry trend? Try this knottted snake ring on for size.

ugo cacciatori brooch

Brooches can sometimes be a little matronly, but this edgy, vintage-looking brooch is just the opposite.

lee angel marie teardrop earrings

These dainty teardrop earrings are the perfect party accessory. They will look just as beautiful with an evening gown as they do with a dressy top and trousers.

Check out eBay’s Inside Source blog for even more affordable jewelry gifts – we love the pieces they found for under $25 (and your thankful recipient won’t be wearing the same baubles as everyone else).
