We're in that blissful weather period between rainy and unbearably hot that makes for gorgeous late-spring outdoor workouts. On Better.tv, we’re showing you the best workout gear for your outdoor run (or brisk walk – that works too).

A couple of weeks ago, I set out to try Reebok’s new EasyTone sneakers, which aim to tone your legs using built-in balance pods that destabilize your step a bit and increase muscle activation.*

And try I did. Walking in the shoes feels a little…different. It’s not necessarily more difficult, but I did notice a change, thanks to the balance pods. After a several-hours-long walk uptown, around the park, and back down to my apartment (spring!), my legs were definitely tired. Actually, my whole self was tired. I promptly fell asleep on my couch.

Last I checked in, I’d worn Reebok EasyTone sneakers around my apartment a bit and on a really long walk, after which I was completely tired out.

The sneakers aim to tone your legs using built-in balance pods that destabilize your step a bit and increase muscle activation,* so because I am an overachiever and a curious workout fiend, I decided to do my lower-body workout (including squats and lunges) in the shoes, too.

The sneakers aren’t meant for working out in, but I suspected they might give my routine an extra jolt of muscle engagement. And it seems like I was right – it’s sort of like doing your lunges on two little balance boards: it was more difficult, and my legs were really, satisfyingly sore afterwards.

What: SPIbelt, a “small personal item belt” that doesn’t bounce around when you do.

Why: Since the day it was warm enough to go running outside, I’ve been complaining about how annoying it is to stick my keys in the waistband of my leggings and stuff my credit cards in my iPod case before heading out to the river.

So our CEO Michelle naturally forwarded an e-mail about the SPIbelt ($20) my way.

It’s basically exactly what I was looking for: A flat, zippered pocket on an adjustable elastic band. It’s undetectable under a t-shirt, and comfortably fits keys, a credit card and license, some cash and a lip balm – you could probably get an iPod in there too. And it seriously doesn’t move when you run.

It’s still kind of embarrassing to unzip a pocket on your hip when you go to pay for your post-run coffee, but ok. I’ll deal with it.

It’s that time of year when we all swear this is the year we’re gonna do it. I hate showering at the gym. It’s not like the bathrooms are dirty or anything, I just hate hauling everything I need to clean-up post-workout. So I’m always on the hunt for cute workout clothes that can blend into the real world outside the gym too. My newest find is this cute tank from Lucy. Just like having the perfect dress can make a cocktail party full of strangers a little less scary, being properly outfitted for the gym can make the whole thing a bit less daunting. Tops: For indoor workouts or as a base layer, the Athletech Basic Tank Top ($13) is all you need. Add the company’s Active Performance Color Block Tee ($9) and a jacket for outdoor workouts; on colder days, layer it on top of C9 by Champion’s Long Sleeve Tee ($15).

Bottoms: The least expensive piece on the list, these Athletech Active Performance Reflective Piping Shorts ($7.49) are actually really solid for running – lightweight, plus they have built-in underwear and a little pocket for keys. C9 by Champion’s version ($10.49) is made of 100% cotton, and Old Navy’s Yoga Capris ($10) are perfect for running outside or…yoga.

Bras: Gold’s Gym’s Racer Bra ($19) is made of a soft, stretchy cotton/spandex blend, and has a ¾” band in the front to keep it in place. Old Navy’s Sports Bra ($15) has a higher cut for more coverage, and if you’re feeling particularly brave, you can wear it alone – the modern styling makes it look something like a top.

Shoes: The only item here over $20, these Champion Volt sneakers ($30) from Payless have padded insoles and breathable mesh lining, just like the pricier versions.
